Modern Black & White Inspiration Shoot
If you are looking for some black and white inspiration for you big day, look no further! This modern inspiration shoot blends a few of my favorite things: anemones, bow ties, and caviar from Délices Nicolina Servello Food (all black and white, of course). Lisa Renault Photographie captures this touching shoot full of gorgeous details and much more here!
From imaginejoy calligraphie... This modern styled shoot (or "créatif" as we call it in Montréal) was conceptualized by Joy Deneen of imaginejoy calligraphie and captured through the lens of Lisa Renault Photographie. With a team of creative wedding vendors, we worked within a black and white colour palette, drawing loose inspiration from the paintings of Jackson Pollock. Splashes, splatters and drops of paint make bold statements in the invitation suite, table settings and a variety of decorative elements.
The shoot took place in the sunny studio of food stylist and caterer Nicolina Servello. Her space boasts a full kitchen, inspiring prop rooms and absolutely beautiful light. Her atelier also sits above Westwood Salon, and owner Ingrid Bauer provided hair, makeup and grooming for our models.
A longtime couple in real life, Dominique and Marc played the parts of our dashing grooms. Along with their classic black bow ties and suspenders, they each wore a different boutonnière, created by O.xide Design. Black and white anemones also made an appearance on the gorgeous five tier cake by Luisa Galuppo Cakes, highlighting Luisa's stunning sugar flower work and a hand painted quote by imaginejoy calligraphie.
In addition to the cake, hand lettered details abounded, from sleek mirrored chargers doubling as place cards to a painterly invitation suite and bar detailing. Joy also painted E.E. Cummings' poem "[i carry your heart with me (i carry it in]" on one studio wall. The mural served as a dynamic backdrop for the couple's portraits.
The shoot also featured a decadent culinary spread which included a variety of black liquorice candies, an Italian amaro bar, squid ink pasta, terrines of panna cotta and caviar and a seafood platter for a pop of colour.
All of these details were captured beautifully by Lisa Renault, who has an impeccable eye and gift for natural light photography. We were also incredibly fortunate to be joined by Michael Abril and Jérôme Lafone, who shot a fantastic behind the scenes video (edited by Benoit Fry) of the team at work.
