5 Tips for Creating a Beautiful Wedsite

Having a wedsite was a lifesaver for my fiancé and I. It's one of our must-have recommendations for all of our newly engaged friends—because one pretty place for everything will keep you sane, promise. So how do you go about creating a beautiful (and functional) wedsite? That's where our friends at Riley & Grey come in. They're giving us five quick tips to craft a site that will seriously wow your guests.

The Domain Down-Low

We could go on and on about what makes a great wedsite domain name (really), but one tip stands above the rest: make it short and sweet (read: easy to remember). If you have a wedding hashtag, why not keep things consistent and match it to your domain? Plus, this reminds guests to revisit your site post-event to check out your Instagram gallery.

An Excuse for a Photoshoot!

You now have the perfect reason to either take engagement photos or use up all the great engagement snaps you already have. How many of those pics can you squeeze onto your save the date anyway? Use your site to showcase these shots without flooding your friends’ social media feeds. (Pro tip: consider including your pals in your shoot for your wedding party page!)

Take Advantage of #TBT

So professional wedding party shots aren’t in the cards and you've scoured Facebook only to conclude that that pic of your MOH doing a keg stand isn’t going to cut it. Two words: Throwback Thursday. Get playful by using baby photos pulled from your friends’ #tbt Instagrams. Throw on a filter with your site’s photo-editor or just leave be — that old-school film look is perfect as is.

Check Yourself Before You Rec Yourself

A wedsite is your best means of communicating info to guests short of getting shackled into endless email chains. This rings especially true for accommodation recommendations. But don’t go overboard and overwhelm out-of-towners with too many options. Limit recs to just three, each covering a different price point (budget friendly, splurge, and happy medium).

Sharing is Caring

All that being said, go ahead and give your guests plenty to do. No, you don’t need to pack your wedding weekend with an intense itinerary. Just point people in the direction of your favorite eateries, shops, or any other happenings in your city/town around the big day. You’ll keep everyone happy (and out of your hair) until the main event.
