From the beautiful Bride… In April 2014, Evan proposed. I was so excited and naturally went into planning mode immediately. I always thought that I would get married on a warm sunny day in the Spring or Summer. I imagined the beautiful greenery, bright sunny skies and dancing under the moonlight. Since I was unable to to plan a wedding for that Summer in a matter of months, I realized that I also didn’t want to wait a year or more to get married the following Summer either.

Before I knew it, I was considering a winter wedding, which was that sweet spot amount of time that I wanted to spend planning, about 9 months. The idea of a winter wonderland wedding started to appeal to me and I soon started looking up beautiful icy color motifs and bright white flowers. I dreamed of snow. I wanted to stay away from anything Holiday related, so was sure to avoid anything red, green or tartan.

Checking the weather leading up to the wedding was a nerve wracking experience. It went from unseasonably warm, to bitter cold and finally, 100% chance of cold rain, the entire day. My sweet friends and family repeated the old adage of “rain is good luck on your wedding day” to me as I moved onto acceptance that it would be a cold rainy mess.

The morning of the wedding it was indeed very cold and very wet, but I was more excited to marry my best friend than to worry about the weather forecast.

The wedding was located on the Chesapeake Bay with huge windows overlooking a beautiful misty view of the Bay Bridge. Guests scurried in holding gifts and umbrellas for shelter. The ceremony was held in front of a huge fireplace with beautiful gold floating and pillared candles lit and a large white wreath on the mantle. The reception had a long banquet style table where our closest family members and friends sat with 8 round tables surrounding it. We had alternating gold sequin runners that reflected the warm candlelight from all around. The tables were high-low, some with simple green and white floral arrangements with gold bird confetti scattered on the stark white table cloth; others with dramatic sweeping tree branches with tea light candles hanging from them. The reception was filled with good music, food, laughter and warmth.

The warm feeling I had always dreamed of had come true and I am convinced that the rain made it feel all the more cozy and inviting. Being surrounded in a beautiful candlelit venue, with all of our family and friends made us feel all the more content and happy to be under one roof. In the end, I never had my warm sunny Spring wedding I always envisioned; we had something better.
