This summer celebration combined various design styles, yet still paid homage to tradition, creating one unique modern, whimsical wedding. With a blank canvas like Airship 37, you can craft any environment you so wish and this couple and Envision Weddings & Events did so beautifully. A Brit & A Blonde captured it all and you can see every bright bloom and sparkling smile right here!
From A Brit & A Blonde Photography… Carly and Alex wanted their wedding decor to be a reflection of them as a couple – so their big day was quite modern, but still strongly rooted to family and cultural traditions. The couple are from Toronto, originally, but now live in Vancouver. They really wanted to say their “I do’s” back in their hometown, so Toronto it was!
The hand-made paper cranes decorating the altar and receiving table were lovingly crafted by Carly’s mother and her extended family in a multitude of colours; representing the Japanese tradition that the making of 1000 paper cranes will mean a wish will be granted. Alex’s grandmother also provided a special gift by hand-inking the individual table number cards in Chinese calligraphy. The ceremony was performed by Carly’s uncle, and included many of the traditions of a Japanese wedding – including having the Bride and Groom to drink quite a bit of sake!
The couple chose a mix of pinks, oranges and golds for their florals, table settings, and the paper lanterns that adorned the otherwise sleek and simple white space. For an extra dose of colour, Carly chose navy bridesmaids dresses, chopstick favours, and ribbon for the cupcake stand. We absolutely adore the fun and personal wall art and invitations depicting the couple, which were created by their close friend, graphic designer Carlos Melendez. It was so modern and really super cool. They had a sushi bar all rolled fresh during cocktails in the beautiful adjoining room that has a cozy and very ‘cocktail party’ vibe. The sushi came from The Sushi Bar, a restaurant that Alex’s family has been going to for years, and, finally, a candy station – complete with ring pops! – was set up for dessert.
