I may have mentioned a time or two (read: one million) that Father of the Bride is one of my all-time favorite movies, but when I see a sweet affair like this gorgeous CT wedding, it’s definitely worth repeating. Preppy meets classic, this is a day that is overflowing with amazing details; from the lush blooms from KD&J Botanica to the sweet blue hues. See it all captured by IRIS Photography right here.
From The Bride…Richard and I met while we were both living in New York City. I was working in finance and he was getting his masters at Columbia. After meeting through mutual friends at what became one of our favorite local dive bars, The Back Fence, the rest, as they say, is history.
I am still surprised at how painless and enjoyable it was to plan our wedding. I chalk it up to both of us being on the same page from the very beginning, and to both our parents, who went above and beyond to make the weekend wonderful. When Richard and I started talking about our wedding, we agreed right away on what was most important to us: 1) That the wedding be held somewhere meaningful to both of us 2) That we would do whatever it took to secure our most favorite band – Party on the Moon 3) That we would ask our good friend, Reverend Brooks Hundley, with whom Richard worked at Saint Albans School in D.C. to officiate the wedding 4) That our wedding be all about having fun. With those priorities set, the other details fell into place seamlessly.
I owe so much to my parents for how our wedding day turned out. It was actually my father’s idea for us to get married in my parent’s backyard. I originally hesitated when he first proposed the idea… we’ve all seen George Banks’ historic meltdown in Father of the Bride… but my Dad assured me he would have fun with the process and he did. Both he and my Mom worked tirelessly, without a wedding planner, to secure the right vendors and coordinate all the details taking much of the stress away from me and Richard.
Our wedding day ended up being even more beautiful, fun, and special than we ever could have hoped. We were blessed with perfect summer weather; thoughtful and witty speeches from my father and our brothers, an epic dance floor thanks to Party on the Moon’s unforgettable performance and our friends and family getting their rage on, delicious food from Marcia Selden Catering, and the most enchanting ambiance provided by Sperry Tents and KD&J Botanica.
