Besides this darling duo’s great taste in music (they played Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” twice at their wedding), they really know how to throw one fabulous party. Together with a fab team of vendors (think Daisy Rose Floral Design and Paper Daisies Stationery) they created a day that was rich in organic-inspired details and rustic charm at every turn. From the beautiful Bride… My husband and I decided to get married in Bolinas, CA– a small town in West Marin that’s about an hour north of San Francisco, and near and dear to our hearts. We wanted a wedding that reflected the wonderful memories we have of spending time with friends and family in this special part of California. We also wanted a wedding that reflected the life we try to lead together: fun, unfussy, and filled with love, family, and good food.
I had the most difficult time choosing a palette for the wedding. Eventually, I just chose things I love from nature, all of which happen to be beautifully fragrant: French lavender, eucalyptus, and rosemary. Every part of the day incorporated these elements. My bouquet of creamy tea roses and peonies was dotted with all three; our flower girls wore crowns of eucalyptus and lavender; our specialty cocktail was a French-inspired lavender lemonade; we gave our guests homemade rosemary-infused sea salt to take home with them; each dinner table had small floral arrangements that mirrored my bouquet, and each place setting had a sprig of fresh rosemary.
We decided to have a Catholic ceremony at the local church in town, which is a small mission chapel built in 1853 that has been the site of baptisms, weddings, and funerals in my husband’s family. Since I’m not religious, I decided to incorporate some secular elements into the ceremony: my brothers played a Hawaiian wedding song on ukulele, and a Carl Sagan quotation was inscribed on our program. And, both my husband and I were walked down the aisle by our parents!
Our reception was held at the Peace Barn, a private property in Bolinas that we were given permission to use. We enjoyed cocktails, oysters, and hors d’oeuvres on the meadow behind the barn, which is bordered by cypress and willows, and looks out on the Bolinas lagoon. At sunset, guests made their way back up the narrow, marsh-lined path to enjoy dinner, dancing, donuts and cake in the chandelier and candlelit barn. The groom and I had planned to exit the party early at 11, but we couldn’t tear ourselves away from the dance floor until the DJ stopped at midnight. The last song he played was Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing,'” which our string trio had played as our recessional. It was a perfect end to the celebration.
