It goes without saying: classic ballroom beauties never go out of style. Especially when that ballroom affair is rich in garden-inspired details, lush blooms and sweet pink and gray hues. From the Bride… Of course, like every girl out there I had a vision of how my wedding would look- from my dress to the flowers to the china on the table- and it was definitely a strong vision! However, I never thought that would include a Yankee husband who I met while we were both in scrubs working at a hospital on the west side of Chicago. Nick and I fell in love almost instantly and one quick year later, he proposed while we were hiking with the prior love of my life, my dog Oliver. Because of our jobs, we spent our entire engagement year living in different cities; I was finishing my residency training in Chicago and Nick was starting his in Pittsburgh. We knew that it wasn’t going to be a typical fairy tale engagement, not only because we would miss each other tremendously but also because we couldn’t be together to plan the wedding. I always dreamed of getting married in Dallas because it’s home to me, and Nick was excited to bring his family and friends down South for the celebration. We chose July 5th for the wedding date because it was one of the first weekends we would finally be together, and we felt that the three-day weekend would make traveling easier for all of our loved ones. With that in mind, we wanted a venue where our guests could enjoy the July 4th holiday and survive the Texas summer. From the pools to the golf course to the spa, the Four Seasons Las Colinas was the perfect setting.
I loved the idea of an outdoor-tented wedding reception- very classic, very “Town and Country”. After speaking with my parents and Nick, our concern was the heat would be too much for our guests to enjoy themselves. So our concept was to recreate that classic garden wedding feel inside the ballroom at the Four Seasons. Working with our florist, Cesar, was a dream and he instantly “got” what we were trying to do. That’s when the idea of bringing live towering trees into the ballroom came to be. I wanted the flowers to be mostly whites and blush tones, bringing in color only through the natural, free flowing greenery and leaves. Crisp ivory linens were the perfect backdrop for garland running down the center of the head table and Sevres China throughout the room. The black-and-white checkered dance floor finished off the timeless look. Not too over-the-top; tailored and elegant.
My favorite moment of the night (aside from saying my vows- because that was incredible!)- was being able to sit down at such a beautiful table with such delicious food surrounded by everyone we love most in the world. Nick says that was his favorite moment too, but I’m suspicious it was actually the chicken biscuits with gravy and spiked chocolate milkshakes we served just before the night ended!
