Whimsical + Bright Summer Garden Wedding

We’ve spent an entire day drooling over photo pretties a la Ryan Ray (peek back here and here), but this little garden fête might just take the cake. Sprinkled with a mix of festive colors and whimsy-filled design by Love and Splendor, it’s a total feast for the eyes with luscious bloom by Adornments Flowers and Finery. Dive into a whole gallery of pretty right here.

Whimsical

From Love & Splendor… Gabbie had a fresh, playful vision for her wedding day. We set the stage for her celebration in a charming, overgrown garden on the central coast and pulled in colorful details for a whimsical look. Since the wedding was in the heart of summer, the garden was exploding with color and felt very lush and wild. Instead of sticking with a rigid color palette, we embraced a wide range of complementary colors including cornflower blue, buttercup, grapefruit, peach and raspberry.

As guests arrived, they were greeted with welcome refreshments poured in cheerful yellow glassware from Casa de Perrin. Metal Tolix-style chairs provided unique ceremony seating, softened by bold sprays of florals along the aisle leading up to an ombré floral curtain backdrop. The juxtaposition of the verdant garden setting and the structured, industrial chairs was striking.

Cocktail hour was held on a sunny patio, where guests lounged on velvet and floral-patterned upholstered furniture from Found Rentals. The look was eclectic and warm, with interesting objects and conversation-starting floral accents adorning cocktail and end tables. Local singer/songwriter Ray Fortune provided beautiful background music.

Because the couple wanted to emphasize lounging and a more free-flowing timeline, dinner was artfully presented at three creative food stations by Heirloom LA. Guests helped themselves to short ribs, seasonal salads, lasagna cupcakes and lettuce wraps, plated on simply modern Heath ceramic plates from Casa de Perrin. Olive hued glassware and vintage patterned snack trays (used as silverware holders) gave tabletops an earthy feel. Laurel and her team from Adornments Flowers created the perfect floral arrangements, integrating cloches, redwood slices and vintage brass and silver vases for layered displays. I loved the unique blooms utilized throughout the floral design, including King and blushing bride protea, icelandic poppies, scabiosa, eryngium and sweet pea tendrils. The feel captured both vintage charm and a modern quirkiness that fit the couple to a tee.

After dinner, dancing and dessert was enjoyed as the sun set. My favorite Enjoy Cupcakes were centerstage, in an array of seasonal flavors. Guests later moved to a rooftop after-party at the Granada Hotel in downtown San Luis Obispo, where the celebration continued into the evening.
