From Say Yes to the Dress to an Elegant Wedding at Lowndes Grove
This gorgeous Bride might look a bit familiar to all of our fellow die-hard wedding fans out there. Her dress journey was profiled on "Say Yes to the Dress" and we were left wondering how the rest of her adventure played out post dress decision. To call it a success would be an understatement, with this glamorous Southern soiree at Lowndes Grove Plantation, led by the team at Burlap Elephant. Jennifer Bearden and Artistic Eye captured every bit so we don't have to miss out on a second of this fairy tale.
From Lowndes Grove... Kelly and BG's wedding was a fantasy of clean tonal shades which took place at the legendary Lowndes Grove Plantation in downtown Charleston, South Carolina. Married under the arms of an ancient sweeping oak along the banks of the Ashley River, the sparkling white reception also took place on the grounds upon the stately terrace of the mansion. The reception included a raw bar, bourbon bar, and a an individual pie and dessert selection inside a custom pie safe.
Kelly and BG's amazing wedding was also the subject of Say Yes to the Dress! It was magnificent and the couple are beautiful inside and out.
From the Bride... Being from the same hometown and growing up just down the street from one another, it still took years for BG and I to formally meet. As a 21 year old returning from studying abroad in Italy, I walked into a local bar where I introduced myself to what would be the love of my life. Living in two different cities, BG and I began dating even though we lived miles apart; he in Erie, PA and I in New York City. Regardless of the distance and frequent weekend trips, we were madly in love.
Envisioning my engagement wasn't something I thought about often. However, what I did know was I wanted that special moment to include our amazing family and close friends. On the eve of December 28th, 2012, BG asked me to marry him. It was one of the most incredible nights of my life. Quickly after our engagement, we decided on a low country soiree down south. With a southern affair, family and friends could join us for the vacation of a lifetime. Within a few short weeks, we flew to Charleston, a beloved city with unending charm, immense history and culinary delights. After checking into the Charleston Place, strolling down King Street and sharing an incredible dinner at FIG, the decision was a no-brainer.
The moment we laid eyes on the Lowndes Grove Plantation, I knew immediately this was the venue for us. It is absolutely breathtaking, sitting along acres of Oak trees, the calm and radiant Ashley River and a country-chic plantation home filled with endless amounts of character. As a former event planner, I was ecstatic about planning my very own wedding. With the help of Pinterest and bridal magazines, coordinating the special details for our day came quite easily. Working in fashion, I've come to know my taste and wanted the event space to feel like a shabby-chic and glamorous affair. The neutral palette allowed for me to really highlight specific details without color taking the spotlight. The gorgeous handcrafted bar pieces, vintage chandeliers, custom signs for the Bourbon Bar, tufted sofas and furniture and the market lights created a space that was so warm, elegant yet filled with lots of character unique to us. Some special details we were excited to incorporate included BG's very own Bourbon Bar, books in the bar shelves (BG's a writer) and first dances with my three brothers. Our tablescape included ivory linens, gold accented chargers, vintage floral dinnerware and loads of candles ranging in size and form. The floral arrangements adorning the tables included mercury compotes with white hydrangea, ivory peonies, ivory and blush garden roses and white ranunculus finished off with dusty miller. With the reception outdoors, our guests got to enjoy the magnificent landscape of the Lowndes Grove while drinking and dancing underneath the strings of radiant market lights. I couldn't have been more happy with the way everything turned out, especially the customized Bourbon Bar for BG. Not only did it become a special place for him and his friends, it became a focal point for all of our guests who spent much of the evening enjoying spirits under the stars.
Our wedding day was one of the best days of our lives and we couldn't have dreamt it would look and feel as magnificent as it did. Most importantly, above all else, we were surrounded by those we love and adore so much in this world and they all made this day unforgettable!
Planning the wedding while living in Chicago was made so much easier with the significant help of Leslie and Naomi at Ooh Events, Kelly at Snyder Rental, Katie at the Burlap Elephant and Barrett and team from Patrick Properties. This group of women I cannot thank enough, each made our wedding incredibly special because of their exceptional work and passion for what they do. To them, we are forever thankful!
