Tips for Planning the Perfect Proposal

Today is a very special day. Not only is it the first day of spring (!!), but it’s also National Proposal Day. A day when one four word question will forever change many lives, and thankfully for us Sarah Pease of Brilliant Event Planning has a few tips for the perfect proposal. Read on for more!

1 | Money doesn’t matter. A wise woman named Jennifer Lopez once said “my love don’t cost a thing,” and she was right. Contrary to what you may have seen on YouTube videos, your proposal doesn’t have to be financially extravagant to be heart-stoppingly amazing. Start with thinking about your love story, what makes the two of you tick, small little eccentricities that he/she has and most of all, dreams that you have shared and use that to make it special.

2 | Top Secret. A truly incredible marriage proposal involves a genuine surprise. That’s why you should keep absolutely everyone on a need-to-know basis. If they don’t NEED to know, then don’t tell them. For example, the limo driver doesn’t need to know that you’re getting engaged – just tell him that it’s a date night, otherwise you run the risk of him saying “Congratulations!” before he’s supposed to and ruining the surprise.

3Document it. Whether it’s a friend behind a tree with an iphone or a paparazzi-style team of professional photographers and videographers, make sure you document this moment. It’ll be a black hole in your memory (trust me) and you’ll want to share it with friends, family…and even one day, maybe your future grandkids!

From the beautiful Bride… Chris and I met on a perfectly crisp fall day. We both had no idea when we left work that day that we were headed to meet our soul mate. It was truly love at first sight and both of us never looked back. From that day forward we were inseparable and our relationship started to grow. The proposal was equally as magical. Chris told me we were headed to a black tie affair with some friends from out of town. Little did I know we would walk into the most beautiful and sentimental proposal. 36 horseshoes (one for each month we dated) with reasons why Chris loved me hung as the perfect backdrop for Chris to get down on one knee and ask the question I had been waiting three years to hear…will you marry me! The night only got better as we popped champagne and our family and friends joined us on the rooftop to celebrate the engagement.
