Rustic Grecian Bridal Inspiration
I may have sent these pics by Jen Huang to some other SMP ladies when they first crossed my desk, and they all agreed with me; this shoot is "stop what you're doing and stare" gorgeous. With the beautiful natural light, this updo, and a Rue De Seine dress I'd fight for, it's perfect. The icing on the cake? A little hair tutorial by Jen Wilcox so you too can achieve these curls. It doesn't get much better than this.
From Jen Huang... A Jen Huang Private Workshop Photoshoot is always inspired by history and art, to help glean ideas from non-traditional sources. This Helen of Troy photo shoot utilized the following key words: White on White, Marble, Porcelain, Linen, Bread, Almond, Pale Stone, Harvest, Gold, Sand, Greys, Chiffon, Ceramic, Figs, Cheeses, White Peaches, Olives, White Pottery, Ivy Straw, Wheat. We liked the idea of a golden hued bouquet, with foraged flowers and matching table arrangements and bouts. The table was laid out with cheese "cakes," breads and beautiful white dishes, and lots of rustic white ceramic vases from Pottery Barn for a clean but golden look.
Makeup went in a nude and gold direction, stark but bright, with gold liner. Hair was let down for our boudoir portion, and then in a mess of braids for our bridal session. We used a silk tulle veil which we pinned up with gold foliage on either side, like a revamped juliet cap gown. The sleek dress by Rue de Seine was accented by gorgeous gilded tattoos by FlashTattoo.com
This is a Neruda poem that I think really encompasses the feeling we were going for, albeit in an abstract way...
I crave your mouth, your voice, your hair.
Silent and starving, I prowl through the street.
Bread does not nourish me, dawn disrupts me, all day
I hunt for the liquid measure of your steps.
I hunger for your sleek laugh
your hands the color of a savage harvest
hunger for the pale stones of your fingernails
I want to eat your skin like a whole almond
I want to eat the sunbeam flaring in your lovely body
the sovereign nose of your arrogant face
I want to eat the fleeting shade of your lashes
And I pace around hungry, sniffing the twilight
hunting for you, for your hot heart,
like a puma in the barrens of Quitratue
From Jess Wilcox Hair & Makeup... A Helen of Troy Hair How-To:
1. Apply volume boosting mousse or thickening spray to the roots and dry.
2. Starting at the bottom, section off the rest of the hair.
3. Spray a section with hairspray.
4. Take a small curling iron or wand and wrap a one inch section around the barrel while twisting the hair, and use a clip to set the curl in place.
5. Take down another section and repeat step 4 but switch the curl direction, and keep repeating until you have set all your hair.
6. Let the hair set for 20 minutes.
7. Once the hair has cooled, let it down and gently run a frizz calming creme through it.
