From Birch Hill Barn… Birch Hill Barn is a newly renovated barn that opened for weddings fall of 2014. When Emily Steffen and Lizie Anne contacted us to collaborate on a shoot at the barn we knew we had to jump at the chance, as to work with those two is a once in a lifetime opportunity that you cannot pass up. They have an amazing eye for what is beautiful and the way Emily makes that beauty come to life in her photos is unreal.
We were inspired by the color palette of Bordeaux, gold, plum, deep reds and lots of greenery. We wanted to have the space filled with tons of foliage as we all love how organic it can make a shoot feel. A Day in Provence made our vision of a floral wall come to life when she partnered bayleaf, Italian ruscus and locally sourced dahlias to create the look. Not only did the wall look amazing for the ceremony and table scape backdrop but the smell from the bay leaves left everyone in awe. Using foliage is such a great idea for any bride as it can be used in so many concepts for a wedding. We repurposed the bayleaf to drape the staircase and swing atop the hill.
We also loved the idea of incorporating fruit into the floral design. We wanted to pull in our color palette by bringing in figs, eggplants, pomegranates, wine grapes, black ligustrum berries and plums. They fit perfectly in our table scape and bouquet of king proteas, chocolate dahlias, garden roses, hanging amaranthus to name a few. We also adorned the top of the cake with the wine grapes, figs and blackberries.
We were also inspired by a bridal look that was unexpected for the setting and I mean that hat! We loved the idea of the bride wearing a hat during the ceremony to replace the traditional veil. We also wanted the bride to have a second look for the reception and fell in love with the open back bow dress from Che Bella. When the wind blew, we were all left speechless as the silk flew with the breeze.
The day was beyond stunning and it’s all due to the team of amazing professionals who collaborated on the shoot. We all walked away feeling like what we were envisioning came to life in Emily’s photos.
