Elegant Vancouver Botanical Garden Wedding

Garden weddings are the key to my heart, especially when they are as beautiful as this one captured by Taryn Baxter. Filled to the brim with details so darling they'll melt your heart. Case in point? The couple's oh-so-cute dog donning Wedding Design Studio blooms. Wedding Design Studio designed the day and it's all waiting for you right here!

From Taryn Baxter... This couple exchanged vows under a beautiful arbor and included their beloved dog Hannah in both the ceremony and their wedding portraits. I love the classy white, emerald and gold details of their reception details and am crazy about the flower covered chandeliers. The bride switched up her look for the reception by removing her belt and veil, and adding an eye catching statement necklace to the mix.

From the beautiful Bride... Nathan and I had been together almost 8 years by the time we got married. We had bought a house, gotten a dog, and been through the general ups and downs that life has to offer, so getting married felt like a celebration of the life we already had together.

Being together so long we had already learned a lot about each other and what we hoped our relationship would look like when we were finally married. Because of this we really wanted our ceremony to be a focal point of our wedding as we felt it was really important to say all of these things in a venue that felt special enough for our words.

When we started looking at venues we were determined to find somewhere that had a spot for our ceremony that felt romantic, intimate and unique. When we found the vine covered arbour at the UBC botanical gardens we knew it was the perfect location.
It was private, whimsical and beautiful. When we said our vows underneath the greenery with our closest friends and family tucked inside it felt like we were the only people in the whole world who knew where we were.

The green from the ivy served as the inspiration for the color of the bridesmaids dresses as I wanted something that was tonal with the lush garden setting. The sprigs that were used to tie the place cards and the vine details on our wedding cake were used to bring the vibe from the arbor into our reception which was set on a lawn enclosed by full hydrangea bushes that was adjacent to our ceremony.

We wanted our reception to be glamorous but not too stuffy for the garden setting so we went for all white decor, with gold accents and contrasted the luxe decor by serving a BBQ menu, family style from Savoury Chef catering. Some of our favorite memories are visiting the Okanagan region in B.C. and visiting the many wineries in the area, so we chose wines and champagne that were from some of the local vineyards we had visited on our numerous trips to the area. We had shaded lounge areas set up where our guests could escape the sun and enjoy a signature cocktail, or towards the end of the night, rest their sore feet.

We had planned to move to England three days after getting married, so with the stress of moving I needed someone to take care of the day of details that needed attention. Alyssa from Alyssa Short Design made sure no detail was missed on the day of. Having all of our loved ones together to celebrate our marriage right before our big adventure was the perfect way to say goodbye. It felt like we were closing one chapter in Vancouver to start a new one in London as husband and wife!
