Elegant Backyard Wedding
I've seen a lot of gorgeous backyard weddings in my day, but never one as ethereally romantic as this. A sweet mixture of soft, sophisticated details, dahlia-filled blooms and luxe muted tones all add up to a day that can only be described as uber-elegant. Add in one heartwarming moment after another captured by Diana McGregor and, voila. Pure, unadulterated perfection. See it here.
And a beautiful film from David Chang for even more pretty...
From The Bride... Before Matt and I were even engaged we knew that we wanted our wedding to be in my parents' backyard. Precisely measuring the backyard, I calculated that we could fit 175 guests. My mom thought we could comfortably fit 90! We settled on 140.
The style and color scheme evolved from the decision to have a backyard wedding. I love all things navy blue and was set on having navy blue bridesmaid dresses, but with the outdoor setting, I wanted the beauty of the backyard to shine without distractions. I settled on letting my bridesmaids choose a cream dress of their liking.
A majority of my time planning the wedding was mulling over the flow and logistics of the event. I found that a well-timed and smoothly operated wedding is ideal. So romantic, I know! I was adamant about one location for ceremony and reception. There would be no re-parking for me or my guests! There was so much peace to wake up in my parents' home and not have to rush off to a venue. It all happened there. We also did photos ahead of time. We were relaxed and able to finish all of our bridal party, individual and family photos with time to spare before the wedding.
My absolute favorite part of the ceremony was the string quartet. It was on my wish list since day one, and we had members of the Santa Monica Symphony perform songs Matt and I selected. Live, classical music elevated the ceremony to a whole different level.
It also misted five minutes before I walked down the aisle. It was beautiful.
