Whimsical Garden Wedding
This, loves, is how you do a wedding. You hold an amazingly gorgeous ceremony in a garden (complete with stunning floral arch from Bunched Together), rock the prettiest of gowns from Anaessia and cap it all off with a colorful reception that is the one seriously fun party with friends and family. Oh, and you most definitely hire Jonathan Ong to capture all of the pretty. Click here for the full gallery.
From the Jonathan Ong... Kim is a wedding photographer herself (www.hellokimbo.com) so it was an honour (and also slightly stressful for me!) for her to ask me to photograph her wedding. Apparently, the number one question she was asked was "who's going to photograph your wedding?"
Their wedding was in spring in Melbourne and held at Abbotsford Convent. They had a lovely garden ceremony and the rain held off 'till after the ceremony which was such a blessing! Their reception was laced with greenery and a giant LOVE sign. Every part of their wedding was considered from a photographer's point of view (especially in regards to light) which made it real easy for me, plus the fact that they are just the loveliest people so it was great to photograph them. One of my favourite weddings of all time.
From the Bride... Our ceremony was held in the Gardens at Abbotsford Convent. Nick and I love the outdoors and aren’t huge fans of dark churches and also wanted our ceremony to be close to our reception. So that was our reason for choosing the gardens. Plus the fact that with the backdrop of the convent and flora, it is beautiful!
We decided to write our own vows independently and our minister, Roger, made sure the word count was close and that they were similar. I’m so pleased we decided to write our own vows. They were so personal to us and really struck a chord on the day. There were a lot of tears!
The only decorations that we decided to lash out on was the floral arch for our ceremony. I’m a huge fan of colour, so that was pretty much my only request to the florist, was to make something nice, colourful and pretty!
We decided on Bursaria and the Abbotsford Convent, as I had heard that the food was excellent there! Nick and I like to think we are foodies, so the tasting was a lot of fun for us! The service was excellent, too and our experience with our wedding coordinator, Shelley, was a breeze! She was fantastic, made us feel comfortable and at ease knowing she was there to boss everybody around!
All of the decorations on the roof of the convent were designed and executed by our very talented florists Bunched Together! My only request to them was lots of colour and flowers to fill the tables! They also provided the favours (succulents), and did a wrapping station at the end of the night which meant all of the guests could take a bouquet home and the flowers didn’t go in the bin!
We didn’t do a lot of traditional wedding things during the reception. We only did a few short speeches and then a daggy first dance! Our cake was a macaroon cake so we didn’t bother cutting it!
The typography on the signage was created by my friends at Big Picture Stuff! They are amazingly talented twins who crafted all of our signage.
Nick is a record collector and we decided to bring a few along to get people to sign them so we could store them away in our collection!
