Rustic Meets Southern Charm Ranch Wedding
I believe a little dash of Southern charm can, and should, be added to every celebration, whether you're in Mississippi or Montana. These southern California sweeties brought that flair to their rustic ranch wedding, and combined with Cali's summer style, it made for one fantastic mix. Katie Shuler snapped it all and Amari Productions brought it to life, so we can start pinning the pretty details right here.
From The Bride... My husband and I took on a lot of projects for our wedding. We got engaged on February 23, 2013, and because we specifically wanted a July wedding, planned our wedding a year and a half out in order to accommodate all of our DIY projects. It’s important to give yourself an ample amount of time if you plan on having a handmade wedding. Trust me - I was still doing projects up until about a day before our rehearsal dinner because of unforeseen events, i.e. three weeks of pneumonia for me (one month before gracing the aisle!) Thankfully, my handy husband and bridesmaids tackled several items on my to-do list during that time. Our proudest DIY projects include all of our wooden signage, hand painted by my Husband, and our tattered fabric American flag. These were our focal points throughout all three areas: ceremony, cocktail hour and reception.
Both of us being, ironically, Georgia Peaches who met on the west coast, wanted to bring the south to California. One thing my husband and I have in common is the fact that we both moved quite a bit throughout our upbringing. We have each lived in several states and have family in different places throughout the US. This led us to our idea of hosting a celebration with a “family reunion” theme. Our tables were labeled by the different states we’ve lived in, with a personal fact about either of us on the back on the table marker.
The majority of our wedding guests traveled to be with us on our special day. We kept our numbers small in order to accommodate all family members, who were willing to travel, and just a few of our closest friends. This made for the intimate atmosphere we had hoped for. Being in July, we wanted to have an underlying patriotic theme, mostly carried throughout our color scheme of pale blues, lacy whites and blush pinks. We love country music and we love a down home good time! We wanted our ceremony to be traditional and sophisticated, despite our non-Church venue, and for our cocktail hour and reception to be a comfortable, playful backyard BBQ atmosphere. Overall, our day was filled with lots of laughs, sweet tea, lemonade and dancing to the tunes of The Drinking Cowboy Band! We even had true southern appetizers, such as hush puppies, mac-and-cheese and fried green tomatoes.
