Modern Elegant Melbourne Wedding
I sure do hope the peplum trend continues because after seeing this bride's amazingly chic dress, I've become quite a fan. She rocked the style and her whole wedding day for that matter, from adorable photos with her groom to a sweet reception with epic views of Melbourne as a backdrop. Dani Burley and BLVD Media caught it all on camera and there are plenty more smiles where they came from.
From The Bride... My high school sweetheart John and I married on the 22 March, 2014 after 13 years together on a glorious autumn day.
Being from two large Asian families, our wedding was set to be a big affair. Our guest list estimate was 250-300 guests and being in Melbourne, there is a limited number of venues that can hold a large number of guests. As such our venue hunt was not too strenuous. After viewing about three venues including the International in Brighton and Leonda by the Yarra, we settled with Carousel - Albert Park. The thing that won me over was the gorgeous large deck overlooking the lake and I'd heard the food there was good.
Wedding dress shopping was one of the first things to knock off the list.After going to about 5 stores I thought I had decided on my dress until I thought I'd just better check out Karen Willis. I was set on getting a lace style dress however that is not what I ended up with! As soon as I put on the peplum style heavy twill dress with not an inch of lace on it, I knew it was the one!
After many a evening trolling through inspirational pictures from Style Me Pretty and Pinterest, I decided I wanted the bridesmaids to have pale pink dresses and hold white bouquets whilst my bouquet was to be a mix of white and a matching pink to their dresses. I also wanted the bridesmaids to have slightly different dresses but in the same fabric.
The mens attire was to compliment this colour scheme and the blue was really on trend and matched so perfectly well with the shade of pink. The suits paired together with white shirts, white pocket squares to match, and to fit in with the current trend we had the boys wear suspenders which I absolutely love on guys. And to finish off the outfit black gloss cufflinks and a black burberry tie whist John wore a black and white polka dot tie to contrast.
I settled with Flower Jar as they have a great reputation and have worked at Carousel many a time. I had them create a beautiful floral chandelier to hang over the middle of the dance floor, together with providing the large venue entrance piece and the centre pieces for each table which consisted of mismatched jars scattered across a long white framed mirror set in the middle of the table filled with beautiful pink, white, magenta and lilac blooms and tealight candles. They also decorated the white ceremony canopy set upon the deck overlooking the Albert Park lake, with an abundance of pink and white roses and green foliage.
As I splurged on flowers for my wedding and the fact that I was going to have 280 guests, I decided to DIY a number of things in order to not go over budget. These included the stationery and place card settings, some extra floral pieces at the entrance of the venue, the mini herb pot bonbonnieres and the guest signing poster to name a few.
The day wedding day arrived and it started off with some cultural traditions including gate crashing games in which the groom and groomsmen must pass some challenging (embarrassing and hilarious) tests set by the bridesmaids before they are allowed to receive the bride. This was then followed by a tea ceremony with our extended family.
The bridal party then escaped for a photo and video session at Melbourne Uni, an industrial style red brick laneway in the city and finally on the rooftop of crown and at our wedding suite. These few hours were really fun and I definitely think it had a lot to do with not only our best friends but also our amazing and so talented videographer and photographer.
After all this, we still had not had the main event! So after a quick rest and makeup touch up we headed to Carousel where the main ceremony and reception would take place.
The evening was filled with really good food, bottomless wine glasses, so much joy, fun and laughter, photoboothing and eating ice cream from the ice cream bar, good music, dancing and even using the roving MC mics for karaoke till we were told not to!
