Wedding Day Beauty with Molly Sims

Remember that time we got an inside peek – part one & two -when supermodel extraordinaire Molly Sims tied the knot? Well today Molly is back and spilling her beauty secrets for wedding day and beyond in her new book The Everyday Supermodel. Read on for a breakdown of her topknot bridal look photographed by Gia Canali, and see her tips to perfect beachy waves (yes, please!) over on SMP Living!

From Davy Newkirk… We blew out Molly’s hair for the rehearsal dinner, so we started with “second day hair” on the big day. I brushed out the knots and then sprayed on a bit of Oribe Thickening Spray. I tousled her hair with my fingers while using a blow-dryer to get a base texture. I used a ponytail hairpiece and secured it with bobby pins at the highest point on the back of the head. I gathered Molly’s hair and secured it around the hairpiece with a bungee as an extremely high ponytail. I then backcombed the ponytail with a large-tooth comb, making sure to keep the volume even. I smoothed it out with a boar-bristle brush. I then twisted the ponytail and formed it into a large bun, securing it with hairpins.

STYLIST TIPRough fingers over the hair pulled back to give it a bit of texture and body. Then apply a small amount of Magic Move (light hold) over the bun and base. Spray the style with the Aveda Control Force firm hold hair spray.

THE DETAILS | For a something a little extra special, I made a small braid with some extension hair and wrapped that around the base of the bun and then pinned an antique diamond broach at the base of the braid.

From Monika Blunder… For a flawless foundation we used Armani Luminous in 5.5. On Molly’s eyes, I lined her upper and lower lashes with a bronze eyeliner pencil by Nars. I then used Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner in black on a thin brush and lined in between her upper lashes to give her lashes more intensity. I used a shimmer Nars eye shadow in All About Eve on the upper inner corners of her eyes to highlight. Then I applied Nars eye shadow in Kalahari, a bronze color, on the outer upper and lower lashes to create depth. I also used a little bit of the bronze color in the crease to create more definition. To finish the eyes, I used three coats of Dior Show mascara and applied false, flare eyelashes.

I contoured Molly’s face just a little with the Chanel bronzer. I then used both Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge in Pale Pink and Summer Tan on the apple of her cheeks to get the perfect flushed bride effect. I also used a little bit of the Mac Hush highlighter just on top of her cheekbones to highlight her face. To complete the look I used Chanel Chintz lipstick. This color is my favorite for a bride because it has the perfect light pink color. I finished this look by powdering just the T-zone with Laura Mercier loose powder.

MOLLY’S TIP | I love wearing my hair down, but I felt it was too risky for a hot afternoon. I did not want wedding hair-mageddon by midday. I wanted a style that was chic, fresh, and youthful…and, most important, would look good all day and for years to come in the pics. The makeup I wanted a little bit sexy, but still soft.
