From the Couple… Jin and I met several years ago through what we felt was a real life serendipity that brought us together against a few odds one summer day. Neither of us were looking for a serious relationship (just some good grubbin at the annual foodie event) but it seems as though when you’re not looking, you find what you didn’t know you needed. Initially attracted physically as strangers from a distance, we quickly hit it off with a whirlwind romance connected through so much that we had in common from hobbies, desires, and interests just to name a few. As cheesy as it may sound, it was like our souls were two puzzle pieces just waiting to find one another through the crowd. We were pretty much inseparable from then on. Cooking together, going to the farmer’s market, dancing the night away, road trips, home stores, and just enjoying each other’s company. We became one another’s sense of home. A couple years later something else came into our lives. Photography. As we fell into one another we also grew closer on a journey that naturally manifested a passion into a career, Wedding photography. So, from getting to know one another deeply to consuming ourselves into photography, we fell more in love. One summer day during a trip to Eastern Washington wine country, in sweltering ninety degree heat in the most beautiful vineyard surrounded by grape vines, Jin got down on one knee and asked for my hand in marriage and time stood still. It was the perfect proposal for me, the perfect timing, and perfect scenery. And right there in the field on a beautiful summer day just like the day we met, through tears we made the promise to spend the rest of our lives together. As photography has played a huge role in our relationship, we naturally felt what better way than to make it a part of capturing such a special moment in our lives. Our very own engagement session. And as we tend to do things that aren’t always by the book, it only seemed like the natural thing to do. We went into it with full hearts, preparing for the worst and hoping for the best. Just going along for the journey, knowing whether it was a total failure or a success that all that matters is that we put our all into it and took the chance. We drove through seven hours of pouring rain and some sun breaks, keeping a glimpse of hope for sun. When we finally arrived at our incredible (understatement) destination, all we could see was sun. And though it was the most challenging session of our lives due to photographing it on our own and the nature of the environment, it was also one of the most rewarding. Over a course of two days, three outfit changes in the parking lot, eight hours, and two thousand photos later, we had made it to the other side. Through teamwork, keeping things lighthearted and being in the moment, we toasted that night to a success. Not to the success of the outcome we had yet to see, but the journey. And then I fell in love all over again.
