Having grown up vacationing in York, Maine, this wedding immediately secured a special place in my heart. But with Cambria Grace’s stunning photographs, this favorite spot of mine looks better than ever. Wild Folk Studio worked her floral magic and the result is one absolutely beautiful wedding, with a gallery that I’m not ready to leave just yet. It may be chilly outside but the wedding is warming my heart.
From The Bride… Jeff and I met as undergrads at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania, where we were both business majors. I grew up in Connecticut, and he grew up in New York and Toronto, with many weekends spent in Vermont. We truly fell in love when Jeff visited me abroad in Granada, Spain, and weathered a year of long distance dating while I finished school before moving together to Boston. Jeff proposed last November at the peak of Mount Monadnock in New Hampshire (total surprise!). There were a dozen meaningful places we could have chosen, but somehow we both just knew that York, Maine was where we would celebrate our wedding. My great-grandparents began spending their summers in York in the 1940’s, and the town quickly became the beloved gathering place for generations of family get-togethers and celebrations. Beyond the wonderful memories, there is so much to love about Maine – picturesque scenery, New England charm, and lobster! We initially had another venue in mind, but were lucky enough to stumble upon Josias River Farm in our search. The beautiful property, the restored barn, and the wonderful owners (and their goats!) make this location a true gem in Cape Neddick. After walking through the farm on a snowy Saturday last December, imagining what it would look like at the end of September when summer was turning into fall, we didn’t get halfway home before turning back around to secure the location for September 20th, 2014.
We wanted the decor for the day to highlight the natural beauty of the setting: escort cards hanging from the picturesque wooden fence, twinkling lights strung through the apple trees, and rustic touches woven throughout – from the wooden farm tables and chairs to the whiskey barrels and lanterns. The element that really tied everything together was the garland created by Caroline from Wild Folk Studios. The pink and white snowberry and greenery creeping up the poles in the barn and tent and across the farm tables just breathed a magical life into the entire celebration. Thanks to our families, wedding party, and every one of our incredible vendors, the day came together more perfectly than we had dreamed possible. As everyone warned, it all went by in an absolute blur, but Jeff and I could not have asked for a more beautiful and meaningful setting to celebrate our love and dance the night away with our friends and family.
