Rustic Country Farm Wedding in Western Australia
Can I let you in on a little secret? I've been waiting for this wedding. You see, from the moment the oh-so talented Ben Yew sent over this couples' engagement session I just knew their big day would be one for the books. Well, once you take a look at the gorgeous images below, you'll know that is just the case. This wedding is very interesting because they had a special guest, a skeleton called Malcolm. The family farm looks amazing and the ceremony location in an old barn blends so well in the country settings.
From The Bride...A humorous suggestion by my now mother in law would seal this venue selection. Over the course of the 4 years with my partner and visiting his family farm I had never entered the old packing shed on the 40 acre property. After a quick 5 minute walk down into the gully, Kale, my MIL and I entered the building and we instantly knew it would be a unique place to get married with a vintage and rustic charm. It looked nothing like it did on the day, and many special people made the magic happen and our dreams come to life.
We changed our venue 3 times leading up to the wedding. Originally we loved the idea of having an outside wedding, under the stars, and I was obsessed about having it on a farm, I think I even joked to have it all at my in laws farm, but I found a local hall that changed my mind. I was never 100% certain however and my then fiancé admitted he didn't like the venue, so we changed to a local winery that had a very rustic touch. After paying a deposit and being 3 months out from our wedding, the owner called me up to say she was having reservations and was closing down the winery, so I quickly opted out of that. In the end we did a full 360 degrees and ended up having the entire wedding on my in laws farm, which meant we saved money on expenses such as venire hire and alcohol prices.
Even before getting engaged I had always loved the idea of a vintage/rustic wedding. There is something heart warming about vintage things, something that modern decorations can't bring. They all hold stories, they all have memories, they all have character and I thought having a wedding full of vintage pieces would be a good conversation starter for our guests. I started collecting items 18 months before the wedding and I was fortunately given a lot of items by family and friends.
Kale proposed to me on our then boat after 4 years of dating. We were on the Murray River near the family holiday house. He suggested going to dinner by boat and I had not the slightest clue what was about to happen. After about 5 minutes he pulled the beautiful pearl and diamond ring from his pocket. I was so astonished all I could say was "oh no, oh no, oh no", before quickly saying yes! After a near crash incident shortly after, it made for a very memorable night.
