From MStarr Event Design…You just know when you’re going to hit it off with clients…forget friends, they become like family {and no, despite the last name, we’re not related!}. I guess I should’ve known when the first email I ever got from Miki was that she literally was m Starr so she had to reach out. If there was ever a true mStarr bride, Miki is she. She’s the type of gal who trusted and gave creative freedom, who was so eager to hear new ideas, who texted pics of her nails to make sure the color wouldn’t clash with anything, who invited me to her own bachelorette {what an honor}!
This beauty was 2 years in the making {!!} thanks to residency {her}, finishing up a Phd {him}and a cross-country move {both}! But in this case, the long engagement simply gave us more time to curate the perfect vendor team and the perfect vision. Miki + Matt went to college in Maine and were officially introduced in the library, so I wanted to find a way to seamlessly weave both together in an organic way. The end result was a romantic, summer camp design full of color, texture, nods to the surrounding natural beauty, and personal details.
This whole wedding was one big favorite, but some individual highlights were the vintage stamps we sourced for the invitation suite that corresponded to important things in their lives, the black crossback chairs from New England Country Rentals and black velvet tied flatware {the main lodge’s black chandeliers really set the tone for the reception}, the lush + vibrant florals from Petal, my escort card display I still dream about, the romantic draping from Ryan Designs, and every single hand-painted work of art from Julie Song. This is one very special venue and the staff at Migis are the best of the best. It was pouring rain Friday night into Saturday morning but as a tribute it seemed to their recessional song, the skies cleared in the early afternoon and the sun came out in all its glory, making the day that much more magical.
From The Bride…Matt and I knew from the start that we wanted our wedding to be a weekend escape for our friends and family. We met during undergrad in Maine (in a library during finals) and after 6 years of long distance dating while we both were in graduate school, we moved to Seattle. Since we were planning a destination wedding, we wanted to find a unique and memorable New England venue – and Migis Lodge certainly fit the bill! We knew from the moment that we first visited Migis (the only venue we looked at!) that it was the place for us. It served as a perfect summer camp backdrop and allowed everyone to come, relax, and enjoy a weekend away. With help from amazing vendors, our wedding was beyond what we ever could have imagined. We awoke to a downpour on the morning of the wedding, and a forecast that predicted torrential rain all day. Somehow, the skies parted to golden wonderful sunshine and we were able to have our wedding at the edge of Sebago Lake just as we had imagined. There were just too many perfect moments and happy memories to pick a favorite from the day – we will relive every moment of it for years to come.
We were so fortunate to have such incredible vendors – our guiding principle through the wedding planning process was to find people we loved and trusted and give them the creative freedom to do their thing! We were so incredibly blessed to have Justin and Mary Marantz as our photographers; they captured every moment of our wedding day so beautifully. Becca and Molly from Petal Floral Design were incredible and made bouquets, centerpieces and backdrops that our friends are still talking about. Our invitations and most paper goods came Julie Song who set the tone for the weekend with beautiful calligraphy and watercolor illustrations. Our draping and lighting came from Ryan Designs, who really helped us transform the space.
The Migis team – especially Robyn and Maddie – were just incredible. Our videographers, Jeremy and Billy, from Fairfax Films made our wedding video into a piece of art that we still enjoy watching over and over again. Finally, our amazing wedding planner + designer Emily of MStarr event design brought on these amazing vendors and helped us design and execute a wedding that was filled with details that reflected us as a couple. She became like family during the long distance planning process. Having Emily and her team there that weekend took away all of my worries and I was able to completely enjoy our day with my new husband.
