Elegant Downton Abbey Wedding Inspiration

There’s no doubt that we’ve had a little love affair with Downton Abbey over the years, and we’ve proudly sprinkled our galleries with it’s inspired goodness. To envision the Crawley wedding in all it’s Edwardian elegance is a daydream we welcome with open arms. So when Floral & Bloom Designs and Alicia Lacey Photography sent this gorgeous gem our way, we instantly fell head over heels. It’s style perfection and seamless storytelling all the way. See it here.

From Floral & Bloom DesignsOn Downtown Abbey, Sybil Crawley and Tom Branson ran off together to be married as their love was not approved by the community. Their ceremony was never showed, only discussed, so we decided to get creative and invent what that union may have looked like. We wanted to ensure the day was still regal and classic, as that is how Sybil grew up, but seeing as how neither had much money at the time, an afternoon high tea was in order instead of a formal dinner. We stuck with finger sandwiches and desserts, as found at a traditional high tea; the only difference was that ours included a 4-tiered cake to incorporate traditional wedding practices.

Our color scheme of blush, slate, and ivory only helped to reinforced the idea of a simple, yet regal affair—the tones were neutral, but with a flair of elegance, accented by silver accessories.

The stone house and abundance of greenery, vines, and grass tiers at Poplar Springs reminded us of old England, so it was the perfect setting to bring home our theme. Everywhere you turned, there was a location that demanded to be photographed to capture it’s beauty.

One of our favorite touches of this shoot was that on the show, Robert, Sybil’s dad, would be sure to bring his loyal companion, Isis, to the wedding—so we got a small lab to join the wedding party!
