Traditional Elegance with a Twist at the Anderson House
There is nothing I love more than when a couple takes a stunning traditional wedding and gives it a good ol' stylish twist. It infuses the day with personality and gives us countless details to swoon over. This glam D.C. stunner planned to perfection by Atrendy Wedding and captured by Justine Ungaro is just such a fête. Oh and that ceremony setting? I can't even. So good.
From The Bride...We have always enjoyed going above and beyond as hosts for any and all occasions. We are both entertainers and often find any excuse to gather friends and family at our apartment. Whether it is a dinner party, a birthday celebration, or a rooftop BBQ, we are always looking to throw a good soiree! So it was only fitting that we chose the Anderson House as the venue to celebrate our marriage! Ambassador Larz and Isabel Anderson built this Washington, DC mansion in the early 1900's to distinguish themselves among the capital city's most sought after hosts. The Anderson House became known as one of DC's grandest locations for fashionable galas and events. This historical landmark, with its breathtaking beauty and grandeur, truly was the ideal setting for us to celebrate our love for one another surrounded by our closest friends and family.
Once we secured our venue we quickly sought out a wedding planner (Pam Barefoot) who shared our vision. We imagined our wedding happening towards the end of Summer or the beginning of Fall. So we settled on the eve of autumn, September 21, 2013 (the equinox). Not only was weather a big influence since September is one of the loveliest times of year in Washington, DC, but creating an event that felt representative of our personalities was also a key consideration. We wanted our guests to feel as if they were coming into a grand party at our home (for the day), the Anderson House. Both of us wanted a traditional wedding with a bit of uniqueness in some of the details. The Friends Meeting House, which is a Quaker Church, was the site for our ceremony. We had an interfaith Methodist/Jewish wedding, so it was a great setting to welcome all guests from all backgrounds. We opted for a lighter romantic ceremony and cocktail hour - filled with hints of blush and cream colors. And we hoped for a dramatic entrance to dinner, which took place around the reflecting pool in the back garden of the Anderson House. With the help of Pam, we created a fun atmosphere for dinner and dancing by incorporating some fun details in the color of navy, pink along with a Moroccan print.
Throughout the planning process Natalie was certain that the weather was going to be sunny and beautiful on our wedding day. She even researched the Farmer's Almanac and learned that in the previous eight or nine years it had been consistently dry weather with temperatures in the upper 70s on September 21st. Through the first three weeks of September it seemed like Natalie's prediction would be spot on, as the weather in DC could not have been better.
However, as luck would have it, Mother Nature took her course and it rained on our wedding day for nearly seven straight hours. The rain began to fall right before the start of our ceremony and continued throughout our entire dinner. Thanks to our amazing planner, Pam, we had reserved tents a few days before just to be on the safe side. As it turned out, our wedding could not have been lovelier! The unexpected torrential downpour made our guests feel even cozier under the gorgeously lit tents, and the overall ambiance of our special night was exactly how we had hoped it would be - intimate, romantic, and just plain fun!
