Rustic Romance in New York City at Bowery Hotel Wedding

Today might seem like a typical Tuesday, but I’m here to tell you it’s about to become much so more magical. Because sitting below is a collection of images from Brookelyn Photography so special words won’t do it justice. Romantic, intimate, and sprinkled with vintage charm – these two soul mates said I do in serious style, and it’s all waiting for you right here.

From The Bride…Manuel and I met through an online dating site. He first emailed me a day before I was traveling to Argentina to stay in Buenos Aires. This was a crazy twist of fate because although we were both living in New York Manuel was born and raised in Buenos Aires and his family still lives there! He didn’t move the US until he was 18. I asked him to send some tips and advice on what to do and see while I was there. He wrote back an amazing list of insider suggestions that made my trip there perfect. When I returned to New York we had our first date over tapas and sangria. We both just knew from that first date that we had found our true love.

Both Manuel and I are a bit hopelessly romantic and I really wanted our wedding to reflect that. We visited several venues but as soon as we saw the event space at the Bowery Hotel we knew it was perfect. It is an incredibly romantic space and has a really wonderful vintage feel while still being comfortable. From a lovely outdoor balcony to a cozy fireplace with antique couches, it had everything. Lush floral arrangements and vintage candlesticks completed the look. Ivy ran wild over the long tables twisting around the vases and votives.

My dress was the second one I tried on and was exactly what I wanted. I loved the slightly vintage vibe and knew it would be perfect for the venue. My mom surprised me with my something blue. She gave me a vintage bracelet with tiny blue inlaid sapphires. I borrowed her diamond earrings and I carried the handkerchief she carried at her wedding. She also made the ring pillow from pieces of her own wedding dress. I’m an illustrator, so in turn I surprised her with an illustration of me as a child wearing the Snow White costume she handmade for me. I wore that costume for about four years straight! It’s one of her favorite memories of me.

I asked my bridesmaids to pick out their own dresses and choose their own hairstyles. I wanted each of them to look like themselves. I couldn’t imagine one dress suiting them all, they all have such different styles and I didn’t want to change that! So they wore everything from Bhldn to Acne and I loved it.

I was incredibly nervous about the dancing but it ended up being one of our favorite parts of the evening. Manuel and I took dance classes and waltzed to Moon River for our first dance. The third dance was loosely choreographed. It’s a wedding tradition for Manuel’s family to include a formal waltz, which starts with the groom and his mother and slowly each member of the family joins in. It was beautiful and definitely a great way to get everyone on the dance floor!

We are both big fans of dessert so we wanted to treat our guests to an amazing dessert table. Our chocolates were done by The Frosted Petticoat and they were a huge hit. We chose the locks and keys because on the day we got engaged in Paris Manuel and I placed a lock with our initials on the Pont des Arts and threw the keys into the Seine to symbolize our love. The vintage buttons were chosen because I’m the fashion illustrator and founder of Parchment and Pixel (www.parchmentandpixel.com). The typewriters were chosen for Manuel because he is finishing his MD/PhD, which involves writing lots and lots of papers. The cake was by Momofuku because their cakes are the best! And, of course, we had to have alfajores! They are a traditional dulce de leche cookie, and Manuel’s family brought them all the way from Argentina.

The night was better than each of us could have imagined! We were surrounded by such amazing love and happiness. We love going back through the photos and have watched our video more times than we can count.
