It’s a spring Texas wedding that has succulents folded in with delicate garden blooms, all masterminded by The Nouveau Romantics. We decided that we wanted to get married and have our reception outdoors and options in Dallas, where we live, felt limited. We ventured to Austin on the recommendation of our close friend & super talented photographer, Heather Hawkins, who was booked to shoot a wedding at Le San Michele, a venue located in Buda. We fell in love with the way Le San Michele combined a sense of sprawling European-style gardens with Texas foliage, where beautiful plants like succulents and bluebonnets and cacti were growing freely around the property. We loved that the venue owners had outfitted the space with plenty of amazing lighting and beautiful decor, and we appreciated that we could bring in any vendors of our choosing to help us on our special day.
Through yet another connection, we were introduced to The Nouveau Romantics. We cannot say enough good things about working with Liz and Hannah – they made our dreams become a reality. They helped us craft the ceremony and reception that we wanted, and we loved that they are a one-stop shop, a place where we could work together on everything paper, floral, and event-related, creating a really streamlined effect for our wedding as a whole. From succulent-filled bouquets and margaritas during cocktail hour to farm-style tables and family-style food service, Liz and Hannah helped us make selections that felt innately us, choices that reflected our relationship and the party we wanted to host for the people we love most in the world.
Liz and Hannah created a secret Pinterest board to allow us to post pieces of inspiration throughout the planning process. That was really helpful for me; as a visual learner who wanted to be extremely hands-on throughout this detail-oriented process, I really craved a place where I could see our vision come to life. Florals were important to me, and I was blown away with what Liz and her team came up with – our bouquets, filled with succulents and ranunculus and garden roses, detailed with trailing ribbon, were mind-blowingly gorgeous. Alongside my bridal bouquet (which I wish I could carry around with me every day!), my favorite pieces were the flower collar they made for our English mastiff, Callie, and the flower crown I wore during the reception.
The food and beverages were important to us, too, since James & I not only love to eat but we also love to host dinner parties and gatherings centered around a good meal and great conversation. We chose Royal Fig to do our catering, noticing them as a recommended caterer on the list of every single venue we visited in Austin, including Le San Michele. We loved that their menus change seasonally and that they source ingredients locally as much as possible. We also loved that they make their own homemade margarita mix, which is completely delicious. After the wedding, guests raved to us about the food – it was that tasty and memorable. Our favorite dishes were the green chile macaroni and cheese, the Shiner-braised beef crostinis, and the orecchiete pasta with asparagus and peas. Both our bride’s and groom’s cake were the same flavor – appropriately named the James Brown (maybe not after my husband, perhaps…) – provided by the super delicious Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop. We wanted our dessert table to primarily comprised of pies, a mutually favorite dessert of ours, and we were so glad that we went with Cutie Pies for these treats. We loved the blueberry and peach pies but the award-winning heath toffee pecan pie was a show-stopper.
The DJ from Look No Further provided the musical backdrop for an epic dance party, one that will live on in infamy in our memories. The DJ was super accommodating when James and his groomsmen asked to play a special, secret serenade at the reception, a musical treat that knocked my socks off. The video footage from the dance party documents just how awesome the music was!
All in all, our wedding day was everything we ever hoped for and so much more. We are so grateful and blessed, and we keep looking through Heather’s gorgeous photos and Patrick’s incredible video so we can relive that day over and over again!
