Classic DC Art Museum Wedding
Fact: classic weddings will always and forever be my favorite. No buts about it. And when you're marrying with the most timeless of days, what better spot to be but our nation's capitol? Or the National Museum of Women In the Arts, to be specific. It's the unbelievable setting of this black, white and gold affair and thanks to Vicki Grafton the party is just getting started. From The Bride...Our story began, ironically, when Alfred’s friend approached me at a networking mixer. After learning that I went to undergrad in the city that Alfred was in town visiting from, his friend thought to introduce us. There was in instant connection between myself and Alfred and what followed was several years of long distance dating ---I lived in Washington, DC and Alfred lived in North Carolina.
After weathering the storm of dating long distance, we really wanted our wedding to be special…to be the ultimate celebration of our love. We decided to keep our wedding party small so that we could focus on what was really important, becoming husband and wife!! I wasn’t the type of bride who had fantasized about what her wedding would be like so when it came time to plan all I knew was that I wanted the day to feel like us. I wanted a day that was beautiful and glamorous but still elegant and timeless. I didn’t have a theme for our wedding but I focused on a black/ivory/gold color palette because it embodied the understated beauty I envisioned for our day.
One of my favorite planning elements was our beautiful engraved wedding invitations. I put so much time into designing them and when it was finally time to mail them I was overwhelmed with all the other wedding planning. Alfred stepped in and helped me with everything from making envelope liners to picking out vintage stamps. It was quite the undertaking!! It was probably the only wedding task that we spent a large amount of time working on together and it transformed what could have been a tireless task into a treasured memory. Planning our ceremony was another special time in the planning process. I wanted to ensure every word spoken during the ceremony reflected the special bond that we share, so I wrote the entire ceremony which was officiated by my best friend from childhood. I labored over so many wedding decisions but this was one I never doubted for a minute. Surrounded by our family and friends, having my friend unite us in marriage, it was truly a magical experience.
After all the planning, the day really did go by in flash, I’m thankful for my family and friends that played a part and my wonderful vendors that helped bring my vision to life. Our wedding was a beautiful day, sometimes I close my eyes and mentally transport back to that day knowing the best part is that was just the beginning.
