Modern Wedding in Mclaren Vale at The Elbow Room
Bri Hammond never fails to fill our screens with pretty, and she's done it again with this stunning soiree at The Elbow Room. Beautifully designed by Courtney Rae, this gallery is filled to the brim with steal-worthy style you'll want to file away for sure (that dessert table is beyond), and you can see every sweet moment here.
From The Bride...I first met Tim about 8 years ago at a friend's party. We didn't exchange numbers, but had no idea that fate would keep randomly throwing us together until we became good friends. We were friends for about 3 years before we started dating. It all just happed naturally. After dating for a while, we just knew that we want to spend time together forever, and we decided to tie the knot.
As my family is still back in Korea, we had to plan one wedding in Korea and another one in Adelaide. Not all of our friends could fly over to Korea for the formal "white wedding" in Korea, so we wanted to make the Adelaide wedding a GIANTIC PARTY with our friends and family in Australia. We both knew straight away that we wanted the Adelaide wedding to be relaxed, casual, and in the outdoors to complement the formal and structured wedding in Korea.
I must admit that I was a pretty lazy bride. I had never thought much about my "dream wedding". The Korean one was easy because I didn't have to plan much at all (thanks to my parents, best friend, and a dedicated wedding planner in Korea) and the wedding day was just perfect. I couldn't pick anything that I would have done differently.
For the Adelaide celebration, though, we knew what we had in mind for a great Australian party. We wanted to do some things ourselves and leave the rest to the professionals. As Tim is a multi-talented IT guy who does web design on the side, we decided to create our own invitation. I had the idea of making a "secret code" invitation which required special glasses, and Tim had the idea of a website which tells our story and has an online RSVP. We ended up combining the two ideas, so Tim set to work on designing the invitation (www.timothyandlauren.com/the-invitation) which unlocked the secret code used for full reception details on our website: www.timothyandlauren.com. Everyone thought it was a funky and unique touch to our wedding.
Since we couldn't decide on a wedding playlist, we included in the RSVP an option for our guests to select tracks to play at our wedding. This became the background music, and added a personal touch for each guest. We had an "all requests are played" policy, which made it a real mixed bag! We had selections ranging from Bruno Mars to Slayer, and everything in between, which made the night unpredictable and fun.
Good food and good wine for our guests was very important to us as well, and after visiting a lot of different venues, we made the decision to hold the celebration at the Elbow Room in McLaren Vale. It was perfect venue for us; they do amazing food, they are flexible with our drinks menu choices, and they had lush green lawn available for us to use. They also had amazing fusion dishes combining Korean elements like Kim Chi with Australian meats and produce, which was very appropriate.
After we decided on the venue, I contacted Courtney Rae for styling the party/wedding. I originally contacted different stylists but decided to work with Courtney and it was one of best choices we made for our wedding. Courtney and I had a couple of meetings to discuss the concept for the celebration - relaxed, natural, and casual but still chic. We also wanted the lighting over the lawn to create the ambience we wanted. Courtney took everything I wanted in the wedding on-board and did great job with planning and carrying out the big day. I still remember when we were approaching the venue on the day, I could see the set-up from far away, and I could not stop saying "WOW"! All our guests were so impressed with the styling too. (I am getting goose bumps writing this thinking about the day)
We were also so lucky to have Bri Hammond as our photographer. Our brief required someone who could "capture the moment", which meant taking in all the details of the styling and the food, while catching people candidly and naturally. Bri did an amazing job and exceeded our expectations in every way.
Tim is a bit of a sweet tooth and we wanted to provide a dessert and lolly buffet on the night. Guests could take lollies in a bag to take home as their bonbonniere. Although The Elbow Room has great desserts, my previous workplace is like my second family (The Grain and Bean in West Lakes, a specialty coffee and bakery house) and it was so special that they were able to provide amazing fresh baked goods like mini Kitchener buns as dessert on the night.
All of our guests enjoyed the night thoroughly with the loving ambiance, but most importantly, Tim and I had the best night of our lives. It was just perfect and beautiful. Tim and I are so glad that fate kept bringing us together and found love in each other, and also thankful for everyone who helped us celebrate our special day. We are very grateful and feel blessed for everyone and everything in our lives together.
