Elegant Ballroom Wedding in Charleston

Now I’m not positive on this, but I’d imagine exchanging vows under a chuppah full of florals and dripping in crystal just makes the “I Do” sound that much better. With bright petals leading the way down the aisle, and a reception equally as beautiful, this couple may have compromised on a destination, but Sara York Grimshaw did not compromise on style. From Marni RothschildMatt, originally from Tennessee and Marissa, from New Jersey, dated long distance for two years after meeting in college in Boulder. One weekend they decided to take a quick vacation and meet in Charleston, SC. Marissa had never been to Charleston before but Matt and his family would vacation in Charleston when he was younger. Over dinner one night they were talking about how much they were falling in love with the city and if they ever got married, it would be in Charleston. So four years later when Matt proposed there was no question. It turned out to be a great compromise between her family up north and his family in the south.

Both of Matt’s sisters brought a special touch to the wedding. Amanda made the bridesmaids necklaces and Lauren made the flowers for the cake out of recycled materials.

My favorite detail was the cufflinks Marissa gave her Uncle. Her mom (his sister) had passed away and Marissa had cufflinks made for him with lace from her wedding gown. There was also a piece of her mom’s gown sown into her own.

The bride and groom wanted to take advantage of both the city and the clubhouse on Daniel Island, so we staged a first look downtown. The Customs House was directly across the street from their hotel and a local hospice happened to be doing an outreach program that day. The steps of the building were covered in flower umbrellas that perfectly complemented the ballroom décor! The bright backdrop and onlookers made for a memorable first look. On Daniel Island, the ceremony was under a chuppah dripping with crystals, twigs and gobs of flowers on the Clubhouse lawn. Guests enjoyed sunset during the cocktail hour outdoors and then dined underneath a draped ceiling with a dozen crystal chandeliers hung at varying heights in the ballroom.
