Unique Ideas for Kids at Weddings
Call me crazy, but the best weddings I've been to have had little ones as guests. The sweetest flower girls and most handsome ring bearers all dressed up in adorable outfits, ready to party. Thanks to the stylings of Sweetheart Events, we've got a gallery of inspiring ideas to keep the kiddos not only lookin' good, but entertained as well. Kelly Brown Photographer captured ALL the cuteness here.
From Sweetheart Events... With a love of rustic charm, stunning nature backdrops and all things cute I was inspired to do something a little different. Instead of focusing on the bride and groom I wanted to focus my attention on the little ones that attend weddings. Children attending weddings is a matter of opinion; however, I love having children at weddings. They bring a sense of silliness, humour and those special moments that you remember for a lifetime. They are the flower girl or the ring bearer where they get a mere few seconds of attention as they walk down the aisle.
We had Kelly Brown Photographer capturing every detail to perfection. Together with Bespoke Décor Rentals, we brought on a team of Vancouver professionals to collaborate with and showcase the idea of children attending weddings in hopes to inspire future couples on fun ideas they can do their little guests and keep them entertained.
Bespoke Décor Rentals has an entire inventory focused on rustic charm, vintage treasures and unique children props for any event including this incredible John Deer truck and flat bed that we used for the children’s buffet filled with chicken fingers and fries, mac and cheese, veggies, popcorn and cake in a jar for dessert (Wow, right?). Our colour palette was grey, yellow, white and green. We wanted to incorporate the beauty of Southlands Riding Club located in Vancouver, BC and use the acres of property and horse trails as our backdrop.
We started off with invites addressed to the children specifically asking them to wear their best dress or bow tie, bring their pj’s and be prepared for a day of fun. We put together a kids only table with a wooden bench and white floral arrangements with yellow and green lollipops. On the place setting- each child’s names spelled out with cookies, an I Spy game and a custom made pinwheel. Tin Can Studio, a lovely retro camper, came on board to create our children’s activity center filled with games, crafts and red tricycles that later transformed into a slumber party filled with fun Ikea cloud pillows, fluffy white blankets and twinkly lights. We created an option for outdoor weddings where there may not be a bed to put the kids to sleep in and allow the parents to continue the party late into the night. This was such a fun option to create!
Tiny Mr. and Bijou Baby, both local children attire retailers based out of Vancouver, dressed our models. Our girls wore the Siena and Angelina dresses, head jewels and babies breath crowns to complete the look and our boys were dressed with dark grey pants, suspenders, white collar shirts, bow ties and a fedora finished off with a tiger finger puppet boutonniere (adorable).
We added a children’s signature lemonade in glass milk jars with grey and white striped straws that the children swooned over and adorable children size ice cream parlor chairs to create a space that made children feel welcome.
