A Black and White Wedding at The Greek Club

A simple theme of black and white was the perfect understatement for this elaborate celebration. A joining of Greek and Italian cultures, the couple had two ceremonies to honor both sides - which, lucky for us, means double the gorgeous pics. Honoring family tradition as well as great style, see all the day's details in the gallery by Studio 60 Sixty Photography. Plus, wedding film by Spika!

From the Bride...Our wedding bought together two cultures; Greek and Italian. We had two church ceremonies and a reception to follow at the Greek Club, Brisbane. We had a simple theme of black and white with soft pink posies to add a touch of colour. The bride was dressed in a custom made Steven Khalil dress with delicate French Lace. The bridesmaids were dressed in a simple black and white Sass and Bide dress, moving away from the ‘typical’ bridesmaid dress style. Simple chrome hurricane lanterns filled the hall floor and were also used as table centre pieces. A backdrop of fairy lights and hanging white camilia flowers was featured at the centre of the room with a mixture of white flowers falling off a suspended plank above the bridal table. Table settings featured a small black box filled with chocolate, a sparkler for the ‘big sendoff’ and a menu with a chrome rock sitting on top. There was also a small clipboard with a poem. The guests’ table number represented the anniversary year. They were to write a message which would be opened up on the anniversary their table number represented. This was such a fun and special idea which was a modern take on a guest book. The day was long, as all are, however having two church ceremonies made the day all the busier. Having an Autumn wedding, we were constrained to fit preparations, traditions, ceremonies, photographer and videographer all before an early sunset. With schedules and countless lists to help organise the day, everything went smoothly. A Greek Tradition is to be sung to by your family before you leave for the churches. There were lots of tears as the song lyrics are personalied for you and your husband to be with everybody echoing along. It was very emotional, however extremely special having my yiayia (grandmother) stand up and sing to me on my special day. We wiped our tears and set off to the first church. We had an Italian service in the Cathedral of Saint Stephens and a Greek Orthodox service at Saint George Church with the reception to follow at the Greek Club. The first priest forgot the exchanging of the rings, however by the second church service we knew we were certainly married. The most special part of the day was where my new husband and I got to spend some time alone together. It was quiet, the photographer was busy capturing the moment from afar and no one was around us for just that moment. We were able to take in the day together and spend some time with just us. This was a piece of advice that was given to me and we made certain we did it. Soon after we were hurried off and the day just flew. Lots of food, wine, scotch and dancing filled the reception and before we knew it, the months of planning , organising, cutting, emailing, tying, gluing, calling and bowing were over. Love and Laughter was at the centre of the day, to mark and celebrate the importance of the special occasion and it was everything I wished for and more!
