From the Bride… I’m a hook, line and sinker when it comes to love. I tear up at every wedding I attend or even just see…Its the hopeless romantic in me. As cliche as it sounds, I feel that everyone deserves to experience a special kind of love at least once in their lives — one that is both ethereal and organic. It’s not forced, it’s just natural and honest. Everyone’s unique love story brings me an immense amount of joy.

My love story began when I was just 16-years-old. The school year had just begun and I was with my friends at lunch when, from the corner of my eye, I noticed an unfamiliar face with black, shaggy hair, sporting a Beatles t-shirt standing by a picnic table nearby. At that moment, my heart spoke to me and insisted he was someone I needed to know. Days later, I ran into a friend of mine who I remembered seeing with the mystery man at lunch. I started describing what he looked like and found out his name was Sean and he had just transferred that year. Sean and I passed one another in the hall and never spoke but always made eye contact. After the year ended I thought about Sean all summer, hoping the following year would be my golden opportunity to officially meet him. When school started back up, I went to my English class and sat down at a desk. Minutes later Sean walked in and took a seat beside me. He turned to me and introduced himself while I barley uttered two words back to him because I was so nervous. As the year went on, I started opening up a little more to Sean. We had inside jokes, shared laughs and paired up for projects. We hung out as friends but anytime we began to get too close, Sean would disappear and stop all communication between us.

After we graduated he moved to Wilmington for college. Time went on and we grew apart. I would visit my friends who attended the same school and at times would see him. I ran into him at a house party once but before I could speak Sean began telling me about some exciting news — he had met a girl. Heartbroken, I promised myself that I would never put myself through that kind of pain again. Then one night in 2007, I was out at a bar in Charlotte and ran into Sean’s best friend, Andy, who happened to be in town. He pulled me aside and told me he was afraid Sean would end up with this girl that wasn’t right for him. He concluded our conversation saying Sean had admitted letting me go was one of the biggest mistakes of his life. My heart ached. News of this conversation had gotten back to Sean in less than 24 hours. He knew I knew.

A few months later, I ran into Sean while he was visiting Charlotte and after chatting over cocktails, he told me he was newly single. We parted ways, but Sean made a point to stay in touch with me from that moment on. We talked every night on the phone for hours on end and a couple of months later, he came back to Charlotte for his birthday and we went on our first “real date.” We made it official labor day weekend when I was visiting Sean in Wilmington and in this incredibly emotional juncture, I finally asked “What took you so long?” He told me he had loved me back in high school when he would pass me in the halls before he ever knew my name.

Sean finally decided to move back to Charlotte and after 6 years of clamor and confusion, we were finally a real couple. Sean and I have been in each other’s lives for over a decade. To simply reminisce the days when we were just teenagers and see the tremendous lengths we’ve come over the course of these years is an indescribable journey. I never believed in the design of fate, but now I live by it.
