From The Bride...Since the day we met at a local Irish Pub, Aaron and I have been having fun and making each other laugh. We got engaged, just over a year and a half from our first date, in the middle of a beautiful Christmas lit courtyard in Carmel, Indiana!

I’ve always dreamed of having a destination wedding on the beach and Aaron agreed, so now the question was where. After browsing through our many options, we ended up choosing to get married in October, on the harbor, in Charleston, South Carolina. We knew it would be perfect since we both admire its architecture, delicious cuisine, nautical feel, and southern hospitality (it was also within a reasonable driving distance for our guests).

Once we decided on the final destination, choosing the venue was easy. We got married at Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina. I grew up in a small lake town so I loved all the sailboats in the harbor, the long pier, and the marina on site. All of our guests stayed at the resort while we stayed at the Cottages on Charleston Harbor right next door. The charming cottage gave us our own secluded, special space while still being close to everything. This venue was so perfect for our out-of-town guests because the resort, beach ceremony/reception, cottage, golf course, naval museum and rehearsal dinner at Fish House were all within walking distance of each other. The resort also had a water taxi that could take guests to downtown Charleston to do some exploring of the enchanting city!

Aaron and I are both very relaxed, laid back people so with the help of Kala at MOD Events (and Pinterest) our wedding began to take shape! With getting married on a Friday and lots of DIY, we were able to create our dream wedding within our budget. Our colors were dusty shale (J.Crew), gray, and muted corals. I wanted a sweet, relaxing beach affair (nothing over-the-top). We added rustic chic touches with DIY cupcake stands (made from antique glass plates and candle sticks), mason jars, chevron paper straws, DIY scrapbook paper and twine wrapped vintage glass bottles (as vases), driftwood, beach bonfire with s’mores, DIY chevron-detailed signs, and a dance floor under the stars lit with café lighting!

I was so excited to see my wedding Pinterest board (that I may or may not have had completed before my engagement) come to life. The weather was perfect and we were so thankful to have so many friends and family travel to be with us on our special day.

Our wedding day was beyond perfect and we couldn’t have imagined it any better! We danced the night away with all of our guests and we are still hearing not only what a fun evening it was for everyone, but also an unforgettable vacation!
