DIY Victoria Wedding at Euroa Butter Factory
These two are adorable. From their sweet love story to their beautiful, DIY day, they are the type of duo that throws a stylish, yet laid-back affair that you totally wish you were a part of. The kind of day that is hosted at the crazy cool Euroa Butter Factory and features perfectly imperfect florals from Flowers On Melville and a breathtaking ceremony under a canopy of trees. See it all captured by It's Beautiful Here in the full gallery.
From the Bride... Justin proposed in Thailand in 2013 after we had eaten our way across Vietnam. Ever the perfectionist, Justin had been carrying the ring with him every day for two and a half weeks waiting for the perfect moment to propose. When the moment finally came it was on a beach in Thailand. We sat there, high on life, and watched the sunset while we enjoyed a couple of mini-beers Justin had snuck into our beach bag from the mini-bar. Of course my answer was yes and six months later we set out to plan our wedding.
We both liked to do things a little different and the wedding was no exception. I think we walked through most of the venues in Melbourne, but they just didn’t feel right, so we started looking further abroad. I stumbled across Euroa Butter Factory online. When we visited and saw the beautiful old building, met the team and ate some of the food produced from local ingredients, we were sold.
We decided on a February wedding and it wasn’t long before the Etsy parcels started arriving in the mail and the postman and I became friends. Our invitations were drawn by an illustrator but asides from that, Justin and I did everything else DIY!
I was lucky with my dress, I found it effortlessly at Karen Willis Holmes in Armadale. I didn’t even consider it until it was recommended by Sarah the Seamstress. The veil was also a little unexpected - I never rated them until one was pinned to my head and all of a sudden I became a bride. It was a Cinderella moment and I wish people wore veils more casually so I could rock one daily.
I have two dear friends who always listen intently to my life ramblings, praise me for my baking and constantly make me giggle – so it made sense for them to be my bridesmaids. Their dresses were a bit harder to find but I finally discovered them in Maiocchi’s online shop. They were perfect prints and the girls looked like retro beauties.
Justin scoured the internet for the perfect photographer and band. He loves design and music, so he was determined to find something unique. After comparing the top 30 of everything they were both decided. Choosing Scout and Kat from It's Beautiful Here was easy. We met and got on so well... plus their photos were truly beautiful. It was the same with Matt from The Dancing Birds, our band. They had a fantastic non-typical broad music range, and a very professional muso feel that we, or should I say Justin, was looking for.
Like many grooms (I imagine), Justin didn’t get around to organising his suits until the final month before the wedding. His pants were tailored shorter to show off a bit of extra sock and his new Paul Smith brogues. One of my favourite parts of Justin’s ensemble was the button-hole. A happy little cluster of native berries, nuts and gum leaves from our florist Sue.
I would describe the day as romantic, relaxed and full of happiness. Neither of us has ever had a day where everyone is there just for us. It was amazing! We walking down the aisle to an acoustic version of "Home" by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros set a great tone for the ceremony. All my nerves drifted away as soon as I saw my groom standing there with his grin and short pants.
Our guests travelled two hours from Melbourne to celebrate with us, so we organized for the local school bus to pick them up from nearby hotels. The atmosphere is different when guests plan a mini-break for your wedding. There’s an extra splash of gin in the tonics, a more carefree energy and certainly a full dance floor.
Like everyone says, the night went so fast. We danced, we ate, we laughed a lot, and many stories of our history together were shared. We will always remember standing there married for the first time, holding hands and looking into each other’s eyes – happy! It was such an amazing day and we thank everyone involved.
