With a light, romantic, touch-of-whimsy kind of style in mind for their wedding, these lovebirds set out to find a venue that would match their vision. And unexpectedly (thanks to Mom!) landed on a sophisticated museum ballroom. The minty, coral-pink outcome is perfection and thanks to K and K Photography we can soak it all up in this gallery for as long as we please.
From the beautiful Bride… Anthony and I planned most of our wedding from a far. We’re both born and raised Floridians, but moved to Baltimore, MD about a year before our wedding date. I’m from the Tampa Bay area, and my parents still live there, so they were instrumental in helping us plan our dream day. I know that it would not have been half as beautiful if it weren’t for the time and effort put in by my amazing mother so, THANK YOU MOM!
The vision that was forever in my mind was romantic, whimsical and light. At the beginning, we had envisioned a very earthy and rustic style. We were thinking either an outdoor reception at a golf course/country club or a farm wedding with a barn reception. We also liked a few spaces that featured exposed brick walls, but we were always just underwhelmed. My mom suggested we look at a museum ballroom in St. Petersburg, which I was against from the beginning. I wanted something a bit more unique. After much persuasion, we made an appointment and toured the museum. The ballroom was nice, but didn’t wow us. Part of our tour of the museum included a conservatory, which I was told was very modern. I respectfully declined this part, but again my mom talked us into taking a look. The moment we walked into that sprawling open room with floor to ceiling windows that featured the most beautiful view of the bay… we were in love. We knew this was our venue! It was exactly what I thought I didn’t want. It was modern, with clean lines, a marble floor and expansive blank stone walls… but it was just the contrast that I didn’t know we needed for our romantic vision of flickering candles and muted gold undertones.
That is basically where I drew most of my inspiration. I still wanted the romantic whimsical style we’d been dreaming of, but wanted to blend it with the sophistication of the conservatory. It just worked. The color mint was our jumping point. It took so many months of searching to find the perfect mint color for the bridesmaid’s dresses. We finally found it in a made for Nordstrom color by Donna Morgan. We matched the guys’ bowties and planned the flower arrangements around that perfect mint. We added light pinks and soft corals to the color palette. Our centerpieces featured tall cherry blossom branches to fill up the space toward the tall ceiling of the conservatory.
My mom and I did a few DIY projects, which turned out exactly as we had envisioned. Our table seating chart was hand painted and I did all of the writing on the chalk-board. I also hand drew our signs on the bar, highlighting our signature cocktail: Moscow Mules… Our favorite beyond favorite drink!
So when our day finally arrived, the weather was a dream. Perfectly sunny and 70 degrees. All of the ideas that we threw around finally came together in the most cohesive and beautiful way. When we finally were able to see the finished room, it was just as we had pictured it, but better. There was a framed picture of our dog Isabelle on our head table, which just made our day feel so complete. It was the best day of our lives and we couldn’t have asked for better people to share it with.
