It goes without saying that we see a lot of weddings on a typical day, but when a wedding like this beauty lands in our lap, we stop everything we are doing to soak it all in. This, my lovelies, has SMP written all over it. From the stunning pink peonies by Exquisite Linens And Florals to the elegant spin on a typical beach wedding to the model-worthy Bride and Groom, this gallery from Kelly Dillon had the entire SMP HQ squealing with happiness, and you can see why right here.
We loved the idea of having our wedding on Cape Cod so our family and friends would have the opportunity to enjoy a nice summer weekend outside of the city. Rick was also a fan of the Cape because he has such fond memories from his visits to his grandparents’ summer home in Truro.
For our wedding theme and inspiration, we wanted to capture the romance of a wedding by the ocean and amplify it even more by making it feel very elegant and glamorous. We looked at a lot of different indoor venues and fell in love with the Wychmere Beach Club in Harwich Port, MA. We chose the Harbor room because of its softly lit walls, washed out floors and expansive walls of French glass windows overlooking the harbor.
We worked with a color palette consisting of soft pink pastels, blush, and ivory, along with touches of silver to match the Harbor Room’s chandeliers and the Chiavari chairs we selected for the tables. I have always loved the look of ombré and used pink ombré subtlety in our wedding invitation suite, on the ceremony programs, with the petal toss paper holders and on the outside (and inside!) of our cake.
I knew I wanted flowers to be one of the main highlights of the wedding décor and I was thrilled when I met with Yasiris Matias, owner of Exquisite Linens & Florals in Andover, MA. She saw my vision exactly and created the most glamorous flower arrangements consisting of the highest-quality and most beautiful orchids, David Austin Roses, peonies and Dutch Hydrangeas. Yasiris also incorporated an array of stunning crystal brooches by adding them to the bouquets and the vases and candles used as decor. It truly looked like a celebrity wedding and she managed to stay within my floral and décor budget.
The DIY projects we handled for the wedding were the envelope box, the guest book, the men’s and women’s bathroom signs (photos of Rick and I when we were kids), and the pink ribbon stirrers used for the specialty cocktail – a pink margarita with pink sea salt.
I chose a mermaid style gown by Lazaro, which had very unique ruffle that Lazaro calls the “wave ruffle.” It almost looked like ocean waves (fitting for a wedding by the water!). I was thrilled when my mom and sister surprised me with a drawing Lazaro had sketched of me in the dress. We put it on display during cocktail hour. My chapel length veil was custom made with the tiniest swarovski crystals, which gave a twinkling effect when the light hit just right.
The bridesmaid dresses were by Amsale; they were the palest pink I could find and very sexy and romantic, with flowing crinkled chiffon and lingerie straps.
On the morning of our wedding, the day began with a torrential downpour, which thankfully stopped right before I left for the church. The skies were overcast and there was a very wet feeling in the air, which didn’t make for the best hair but our photographer, Kelly Dillon, did an amazing job turning the drab outdoor lighting into a mystical veil of magic for the photos! Our hair might have been windblown, but the wind also helped Kelly get some amazing shots. The sun might not have been out, but God was still shining down on us – we had the loveliest day!
