Traditional Meets Rustic Country Club Wedding
We've seen our fair share of high school sweethearts, but middle school sweeties? That's an entirely new level of cuteness. Especially when you happen to be this adorable duo, a pair that started dating in 8th grade and tied the knot in one of the most beautiful weddings we've ever had the pleasure to share. From the Bride... When Eric and I got engaged, my best friend told me to make sure our wedding felt like “us.” As we started planning, we held true to that vision – ensuring every detail reflected a piece of who we were and all that was important to us. We wanted our special day to be a celebration not only of our love, but of the love that has surrounded us throughout our relationship. Eric and I are middle school sweethearts. He asked me out on the way to gym class in 8th grade and has had my heart ever since. We are blessed to have had the love and support of our family and close friends through the highs and lows of our relationship, and we wanted our wedding day to be a reflection of that blessing – and of the journey that Eric and I have shared.
The Boonsboro Country Club was the perfect venue to showcase the warm, welcoming atmosphere we had hoped for. The lawn, with a backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and the home of a large oak tree, was the ideal setting for our intimate ceremony. The hardwood floors and exposed wooden beams in the ballroom were a great foundation for the rustic feel of our farmhouse dining tables and burlap linens provided by FestiveFare. And the catering – from fried green tomatoes to shrimp n’grits – was a perfect complement to our vision. The entire venue made our guests feel right at home – like they were coming to our home to celebrate with old friends. And the staff were welcoming hosts throughout the evening! Our wedding coordinator, Rodney Meek, designed every detail beautifully– from the breathtaking arrangements filled with hydrangeas and greenery to the chandeliers hanging in the tree for our ceremony. He took our vision and brought it to life far beyond our expectations.
The personal aspects of our big day truly made it so memorable. My father, who passed away 7 years ago, was remembered throughout our celebration. My Dad’s guitar pick was under the lace in my bouquet, and I can honestly say, during special moments – when my mother walked me down the aisle and when the soloist sang our favorite hymn, I could feel him with me. From every tear to every smile – I know he was right there watching us.
Our ceremony, officiated by Chaplain Anne Gibbons, brought our story to life and the advice she gave – relating our marriage to Eric’s love of carpentry and my passion for Human Resources, are words we will remember forever. We exchanged our vows under the guidance of my father-in-law, and sealed our ceremony with a kiss in front of our closest friends and family. Our signature cocktails – Richmond Rum and Coke and Lynchburg Lemonade – signified where we were from and where we were starting our lives together. The toasts, given by my sister and brother-in-law, were reflective of the years our older siblings observed us growing up together – all the way back to soccer in 2nd grade! Our reception was filled with drinks on the terrace, lots of photo booth snapshots, and dancing under the lights of the ballroom. The sparkler send-off was the perfect ending to our fairy tale day.
Eric and I are both so thankful for all the vendors and all the individuals who made our dream a reality. From our photographer, Angela Newton Roy, who captured every moment so beautifully, to our DJ, Music , Music and More Music, who kept the party going, every vendor exceeded our wildest expectations. To our family and friends – we truly hope you felt the celebration was as much a celebration of your love as it was of ours.
