Twenties Style Lake Wedding in Italy
Every now and then, I come across a wedding that sweeps me off my feet—not for the details, but for the all-around love, joy and happiness that just oozes from it. The gathering of family and friends, the tears of happiness, the moments you want to live in forever... This Italian lake celebration from Alessandro & Veronica Roncaglione couldn't be a finer example of that. All in all, it's a real gallery full of so much love.
From the beautiful Bride… We definitely wanted our wedding to reflect our personality, so we’ve decided to go for something casual, fun and enjoyable. Due to our moving to Australia few years ago, we wanted our families and all our friends that we haven’t seen for ages to be part of something fun and not formal. We have organized everything trying to involve businesses from our town to help us out with everything we needed: from the gardner to the catering provided by the carnival association.
In order to have our concept to work we needed all our guest to play along with our intensions, so we decided to have a theme … a 20’/30’ style wedding. Just like "The Great Gatsby’, everyone took the dressing up pretty serious making the scene quite unique, and let me tell you… it was really like to be in a movie! The ceremony and reception have been hold next to the lake at the very end of town, we literally had the whole square for the celebrations, without having to move anywhere else, it was perfect! A lake front view of Lake Maggiore with a steady 34 degrees sunny day.
My father and I arrived at the ceremony by bicycle, he carried me around town and all the way to the wedding. I felt so proud of him! We had an original 30’s bike adorned with flowers and laces. It was amazing! Everything was made by hand from our families, friend and relatives: tables were made out of wine barrels and ancient doors on top, all seats were actual stow bails, there were lanterns, candles and jam jars with my mum’s garden flowers and herbs everywhere, and the arch for the ceremony was a colorful paper flowers structure with two twisted fabric harts in the centre. The whole set up was with a rustic and vintage touch.
We had people from the close valley to bring their own cured meat and cheese to start the aperitif, refreshed with some Prosecco wine. Dinner to follow was all typical food from our town: porcini mushroom risotto and wood fire pork. And the dessert…we had mums from town to bake their own best recipes and bring them along to the wedding. Of course a lot of good wine, which was arranged from our grandfather and that was served straight out of old green glass carboys.
To embrace the soul of the party we picked a band that played a fantastic live rhythm & blues music… It made everybody dance for hours!!! It was an unforgettable day, thankful for all friends and family members who made it happen!!
