The atmosphere and feel of a space can so transform a wedding. It can take it from industrial venue to cozy, candlelit reception with a cool speakeasy vibe. The Green Building is doing just that with a bit of crafting by Erin Braun, a layer of romantic flowers by Sprout and photography by Isabelle Selby, this industrial space was transformed into a family style shindig that guests are probably still raving about.
From The Bride… Andy and I got married on January 18, 2014 after almost 10 years of dating (and people asking us when we were going to make it official)! While Andy’s from Minneapolis and I’m from the Boston area, we’ve lived together in Brooklyn for the past three years, and loved the idea of sharing the place that’s become our home with all of our family and friends. And we also figured New York is a good place to visit rain or shine, so we didn’t feel as guilty about a January wedding!
We wanted our wedding to feel like a big dinner party, with long tables covered with beautiful flowers, bottles of wine and food served family style. As soon as we saw the Green Building, we knew it was the place: it’s absolutely gorgeous, yet unfussy, and because it is a mixed-use event space there was a lot of freedom to pick and choose the vendors we loved. And how we loved our absolutely amazing vendors!
Erin Braun was the most phenomenal wedding planner that we could have asked or hoped for. On top of keeping us on track and 100% organized (which is an enormous task in and of itself!), she also is a wonderfully talented artist, calligrapher, and stylist, and designed gorgeous table center pieces as well as our placecards. So, so many thanks go to Erin for ensuring our day went smoothly and looked beautiful! Our photographer, Isabelle Selby, was also a joy – so absolutely talented and so easy to work with. Andy and I have maybe five photos taken of the two of us over our ten-year courtship that we like, and Isabelle instantly put both Andy and me at ease and captured the most beautiful photos of all of our friends and family. Sprout did the most stunning floral arrangements (I almost cried when I saw my bouquet) and our caterer, Pies n’ Thighs, was as delicious as we’d hoped! Pies n’ Thighs confirmed what we already knew: you really can’t go wrong with fried chicken and biscuits. On top of all this goodness, our lovely friend and Martha Stewart alum Laura Kaesshaefer did the menus, programs, and guest cards, and we were oh so lucky to have one of our best friends from college officiate our wedding and craft the most perfect ceremony – the wildly talented, poet-farmer, Taylor Mardis Katz. She infused our day with so much love and joy, and we are both so grateful to her for being there and guiding us through this phenomenally special day in our lives.
Most of all, though, we’re so overwhelmingly grateful to our families. We had the best time celebrating with them and feel so lucky to have had them all there, supporting us on this amazingly fun, special, and wonderful day.
From Erin Braun (event planner and designer)… Kathryn and Andy were an absolute dream to work with! They are the sweetest and most genuine couple and their love truly shined through every aspect of their wedding. Being such empathetic people, they wanted to make sure their wedding was a fun, relaxed, and memorable experience for their friends and family… and that it was! The entire weekend was beautifully captured by Isabelle Selby!
The Green Building was the perfect setting for this woodsy meets vintage speakeasy meets modern Brooklyn inspired wedding. The styling was a true representation of the Bride and Groom’s personal style. We created a color palette of soft ivory, blush, sage and metallic tones mixed with rich burgundy and navy. The long banquet style tables had a beautiful combination of lush blooms, potted ferns and herbs on top of metallic natural abaca fiber runners. Anemones, ranunculus, silver brunia, eucalyptus, and garden roses were arranged to perfection by Sprout. The table numbers were made of birch wood and each had a different hand painted herb. I created signs with hand calligraphy on sheets of wood paper that were displayed in various metallic frames to create a natural modern vintage feel.
The Bride did not stop smiling all day and was an absolute vision in a classic white Armani dress that her mom found in a second hand shop. She wore a stunning silver heirloom in her hair that had been passed down from her family in Germany. After the guests enjoyed a delicious family style meal of comfort food from Pies n’ Thighs, they literally danced the night away! I have never been to a wedding where every single person was out on the dance floor the entire night.
After a multitude of toasts, videos, and stories, it was evident that this couple is truly loved and cherished by their friends and family. At the end of the night, the bride and groom drove off in a vintage New York City checkered taxi cab…to an after party for more dancing and celebrating. From beginning to end the day was perfect! I was so honored to help create this event and I left with new friendships and felt like a part of their families!
