From the Bride...Jeff and I love living in New York. It’s a city that has a way of pulling you in, where the longer you live there the harder it is to imagine ever wanting to leave. We met at a New York Giants tailgate two years ago and when the Giants went on to win the Super Bowl that year, Jeff claims it is a sign that we were meant to be. When we got engaged the following January we initially thought New York, but we’d been to so many weddings in the area and really wanted to create a weekend experience for our guests that could offer something new. I’d been to Sonoma and Napa Valley years before on a girls trip, and it was one of my fondest memories. All the things I loved about it were things that Jeff and I love together; amazing food, too much wine and generally beautiful weather. We took one trip out to Sonoma (in January no less), found and fell in love with Chateau St. Jean, and booked the venue on the spot for the following September 21st.
Before getting engaged, I hadn’t thought much about the details of the wedding. What was important to both Jeff and I was that we have great food, plenty of booze, and a totally bumpin’ dance floor. Working in fashion, once I got into the actual planning I found myself particularly focused on the details. The colors, the dresses, the flowers, the shoes, the invitation design, these things were all extremely important to me. Thankfully, I was able to find Alicia (of Alicia K. Designs) who understood my vision and importantly my aesthetic. Though the wedding would be in rustic California, I love clean modern lines, and I wanted to blend the romance of the setting and the day with the modern aesthetic I prefer. I wanted grey to be the predominant color, with pops of fuchsia, corals and washes of gold. Chevron emerged as an important theme, from the invitation design to the table runners my mother made herself. Alicia executed my vision flawlessly.
When the day finally arrived, the unthinkable happened in wine country in September. It rained. Scratch that, it poured. But someone was looking out for us, because right as I was stepping out of the car with my father to walk into the church, it stopped. The sun we’d been waiting on came out. Alicia knocked it out of the park, finding a tent at days notice, and reorganizing the layout of the event. As my old boss said, the rain provided the requisite amount of drama for the day. Which can only be said, of course, because it stopped. And in the end, it was totally perfect.
From Janae Shields Photography...Heather and Jeff had a magical wedding reception under the beautiful sky of wine country. The couple live in New York, with Heather working in the fashion industry for Tory Burch. Her trained eye put together a fashionable and chic affair for friends and family. With the help of Alicia and Hazel of Alicia K Designs this wedding was truly a feast for the eyes. The bridesmaid dresses were as unique as they come and each detail was planned perfectly. The gold glittery details that were brought in for the reception were in perfect combination with the neutrals and reds of the personal flowers and attire. Unexpectedly rain was forecasted for this day in September. And while there was some that morning as Heather and Jeff exited their church ceremony the skies cleared and the sun started shining. Guests were able to enjoy their cocktails and dinner in the wonderful environment of wine country.
