Simple + Sweet Park Wedding
This wedding had me at "food truck." Well, that, and the list of gorgeous DIY details, the crafty + talented friends and family and the perfect planning skills of Kindred Event Studio. Because if anything screams "awesome wedding," it's an evening of laid-back elegance under a string of lights with yummy burger in hand. See it all captured by Kathryn Krueger right here.
And a sweet film from Ellen Oliver? Yes, please.
From Kindred Event Studio... Jenny Dougherty and Ryan Jamison were married on a bright spring day this past April. Ryan is an attorney and Jenny is a art teacher and a part-time wedding photographer. Having shot many weddings she knew just what she wanted, and didn't want for her wedding day. Both Jenny and Ryan wanted their day to be simple and stress-free. They weren't the least bit concerned with the day being perfect. They wanted this day to be authentic, meaningful and fun. They achieved those things in spades.
Jenny and Ryan are beloved. Just look at the size of their wedding party! They are rich in friendship. Jenny gave her bridesmaids free reign in choosing their wedding day attire. With a basic palette of greens and blues and yellows - the ladies had plenty of latitude. The men looked dapper in mostly matching suits with pocket squares that Jenny sewed from Calico squares. The ladies carried simple sunflower bouquets that they all hand-tied themselves.
Jenny and Ryan both wore boots, Jenny's were blue suede ankle booties. Jenny had a friend do her hair and she did her own make-up. The girls all went for a run together the morning of the wedding. They ran on trails in Cameron Park, just across the river from where the wedding would be later that day.
Ryan and the boys spend some time at the park the day before stringing the lights up themselves. This was undoubtedly a community event. A friend was the videographer. Groomsmen were the musicians. Another friend brought his home brew on tap. It was a pot-luck of a wedding, everything that Jenny and Ryan had hoped it would be.
The ceremony was at sunset and as the couple said their vows, flocks of white birds swooped down over the river before them. The couples trusty pups were on hand throughout the day, never missing a moment of the action.
The bride kept those who could not be with them on this day close at hand by weaving lockets throughout her bouquet. They said there vows as the sun sank down and just like that they were man and wife. The Jamisons. At long last.
And then it was time to party. The decor was simple. Long tables with bottles (some muddied in all assorted colors of paint, borrowed from her art classroom), candles and flowers. Simple, humble even. The bride wood burnt the signage herself. Quotes about parties, and friendship and love. Instructions on drinks and labeling your glass. Beautiful and practical - much like the couple themselves. Every detail, though few, spoke of their values, their passions.
They chose wine from a local vineyard. They used glass whenever possible so there would be minimal trash. Rather than a fancy banquet, they brought in their favorite food truck. Eight dollars a plate, can't beat that. And those burgers were good. Really good. Frank's Hot Sauce for the fries, Topo Chico bottles for miles, a canoe full of brews and two different kinds of chocolate pies. Pie and more pie. Only to be matched by the dancing and more dancing. Full bellies, warm hearts. Friendship and family. Many said it was the best wedding they had every attended.
Simple. Authentic. Beautiful. Spiritual. Really, really fun. Well played, Jamisons. Well played.
