Organic Wedding in Sonoma

When people ask me why we feature so many California celebrations, the answer is easy. Because with the sea of wineries,  beaches for days and couple's like this one who take refined, natural elements and transform them into pure magic, Cali is just where it's at. Just make sure you take some time to pore over the details shot by Larissa Cleveland too!

From the bride...My husband and I grew up only 20 miles apart from each other but it wasn’t until our moms played matchmaker that we met a few years ago. Long story short, I guess one can never argue that a mother knows best. Reid popped the question on a trip to his favorite place, the island of Kauai and shortly after, the wedding planning began.

Since we currently live in San Francisco and both of us are born and raised in Northern California, we naturally gravitated towards the Napa/Sonoma area for our wedding venue. It provided a picturesque, convenient escape for 140 of our closest family and friends. We chose Cornerstone because it was such a unique property.

The wedding design reflected our neutral design palette and minimalist aesthetic. We used a lot of wood, clean lines and earthy elements, similar to the elements you would find in our home. Wood benches flanked the aisles leading up to our stunning birch canopy, under which we said our “I Do’s.” The dinner space continued the organic appeal. Guests sat at dark wood, rectangular tables. Burlap runners held votives of all shapes and sizes scattered amongst the green and white florals. Each guest received a personalized menu card, tucked into a crisp white linen napkin.

While the décor was gorgeous, I can’t forget to mention the food. Given that we live in San Francisco, we have grown to love all the culinary arts the city has to offer, so we definitely wanted to” wow” everyone with some phenomenal eats. Elaine Bell Catering did a fantastic job. Her food presentation was almost too pretty to eat but our guests devoured everything. Even our toughest food critics raved about the food.

The transformation of the barn was definitely the showstopper of the night. When the doors opened and guests walked in, “Ohhs” and “Ahhs” came from everyone, including my husband and I. Seeing all of the gorgeous chandeliers dripping from the ceiling and the table full of votives illuminating the room, was absolutely breathtaking. It was the one space I told Eden to surprise us with and she did just that. She transformed the simple structure to something truly magnificent. An expansive wood bar stood in one corner, where all our favorite California wines and beers were served. A huge desert bar flanked one side of the barn, serving platters of everything from doughnuts and cookies to s’mores and cheesecake lollipops. Our beautiful wedding cake was handmade with love by a dear family friend.

We flowed into the barn, right into our first dance, where we tried to dazzle the crowd with our new dance moves we learned from the talented Frances. We were so overwhelmed with all the excitement of the day, we were surprised we even remembered our choreographed moves. Afterward, our guests hit the dance floor with us. Chris ended this epic evening with the very befitting song “Home,” by Edward Sharp & The Magnetic Zeros.
