The Mexico Workshop with Jose Villa is such a magical place; a coming together of great minds, crazy talent and a beautiful backdrop of Hacienda El Carmen. In celebration of the announcement of his upcoming 2014 Workshop we’re going to dive into a few of the pretty components. Up first, a welcome dinner crafted by Lisa Vorce + Mindy Rice. It’s heavy on the old world charm and all out romance. See even more of Jose’s beautiful imagery right here.
A note from Mindy and Lisa Vorce… For the welcome gifts, we had our favorite local calligrapher stain wooden boxes and calligraph each student’s name on the lid to personalize them. Brenna from BB Paper & Ink letter-pressed hand-sewn “belly bands” that had custom artwork drawn by her and wrapped them around each box. The center of the belly bands were die cut with circles that framed each student’s name. The boxes were filled with delicious chocolates and truffles – and some very special chocolate milagros that were hand made for each student and silver leafed by Mindy.
The original barn of the hacienda provided the most extraordinary back-drop for our welcome dinner. We set up a single long beautiful table and utilized the Hacienda’s equipale chairs. The weathered leather of the chairs was the perfect complement to our terra cotta vessels and plates. Mindy incorporated wood floral in the vintage terra cotta pots and paired them with hand painted teal blue candlesticks. At each place setting we had teal placemats from Tonala that had each guest’s name calligraphed on it. Casa de Perrin outfitted the table with their lovely Heath ceramic dishes and their teak flatware. We created a unique runner down the table using a pattern of terra-cotta tiles. On each chair, we placed a teal striped serape which served as a lovely favor for each attendee – but also beautiful decor!
