Bohemian Beach Engagement Session

This Bride-to-be is not only drop dead gorgeous but she also gives great advice; words of wisdom about the awesomeness of engagement shoots. Also super cute? The fact that this couple, who will be saying "I Do" South of the Border, gave a nod to their Destination nuptials with a traditional mexican blanket incorporated into the shoot. It's cute, cute, and more cute captured by Taryn Baxter.

From the bride-to-be... As a wedding photographer myself, doing an engagement session was really important to me! Not only do I think it's important to capture these beautiful moments but I also think it's such a special way for a couple to enjoy each other and bask in the romance and love that comes with being newly engaged. I must say that the days following our engagement session we felt like a giddy newly engaged couple all over again!

Graeme and I had decided on a Mexico wedding a little over a year away so I was eager to do my engagement session so I could send out the Save the Dates with lots of time for all our guests to plan a vacation away. We're not city people at all so the combination of these things meant we had to brave the cold and do our engagement photos outside in the middle of the Vancouver winter. My inner hippie came out and I was determined to wear my favorite Canadian Tuxedo (jean on jean) and a long white dress with a flower crown. Thankfully we decided to incorporate a traditional Mexican blanket into some of the photos which definitely helped keep us warm and included a little bit of the wedding to come in.

My amazing friend and photographer Taryn Baxter made the shoot so easy and fun. We were so relaxed around her that we could just be ourselves and that is what we loved most about the pictures. They were so true to who we are and she did such an amazing job of capturing all those special moments.

My one tip to couples doing an engagement session is to take it as an opportunity to do something you might not be able to do style wise (or just in general) at your wedding that you really love! I love the bohemian look but wasn't 100% that I would wear a loose flowing dress at my wedding or a flower crown so I decided I really wanted to incorporate that into my engagement photos. Now I have beautiful photos that capture that side of me too. If for instance your weddings in the city but you love the outdoors or a barn feel then do your photos outside at a local ranch! It's a great way to showcase a side of you that you can't at your wedding.

All in all we had an amazing time! I really encourage couples to do an engagement session and we can't thank Taryn enough for our beautiful photos!
