Foodie Wedding on Hatteras Island

I literally haven’t been able to tear myself away from this wedding. It’s my definition of perfect. The elegantly mismatched purple palette, the soft pretty coastal backdrop, the rustic meets girly decor and um, can we talk about the food? Crab cakes, oysters, ahi tun and a bourbon bar!? Perfection indeed. Need more proof? Check out the stunning images from Emily March!

From Photographer, Emily March…During a trip to the Outer Banks some time ago, Becca and John had dinner at the Cafe Pamlico, a gourmet restaurant attached to the charming Inn on Pamlico Sound. As they sat beneath the evening sky and twinkling lights, they knew they had to have their wedding reception under those same lights with the quiet murmur of the sound nearby. John is a chef and, according to his best man, found his passion for cooking when he made Becca dinner on their first date. The two had some of the best food I’ve ever seen at a wedding: oysters of the half shell, mini crab cakes, and a custom dinner menu with food made fresh for each guest. They even had a bourbon and whisky bar set atop two old whisky barrels.

Their reception had a vintage and rustic style. The 3 banquet tables were lined with mercury glass votives and antique gas lamps that were lit just as the sun was setting underneath a fiery sky. We fought a 90% chance of rain all day, but the sunset off the water was easily one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. John’s mom actually helped design and style the entire day. She created a romantic and intimate mood with gorgeous details that gave the entire evening an understated elegance and warmth. I’ve included some of her words below.

From Judy, mother of the groom…The feeling of the wedding was vintage/rustic which was the request of the bride and groom, a look that is popular for weddings today. And that theme worked perfectly with the venue and location. John and Rebecca were married on Hatteras Island, a place rich in history that has an organic and unspoiled feel. They were married in a quaint church on the island, and their reception was held at a nearby inn. Add in the couple’s mothers, who love to hunt and gather at antique stores and thrift shops, and the decor was born.

Becca chose shades of purple for her bridesmaids, and the centerpieces included some of her favorite flowers. The oil lamps were requested by the bride, and they added a magical glow to the tables without interfering with guests conversations. A farm table, whiskey barrels, chalk boards, and handmade touches were brought in to add character. And handwritten place cards tied onto vintage keys were a necessary touch, since the reception was held at the inn.
