So now that you had some to soak in this couples’ rehearsal dinner and realize they are one stylish duo, it goes without saying that their wedding will be beyond. From mStarr event design...Oh this wedding! This weekend! After some discussion about how their wedding would go down, Kate + Ross decided on the only venue that really made sense…the Bride’s family’s summer home in Jaffrey, NH. and what a venue it was…wide open spaces, manicured gardens meticulously cared for by Kate’s mom, a restored barn, an alley of trees just begging for strung café lights, a ceremony spot at the foot of the forest. they wanted a relaxed weekend celebrating with their family + friends but with a bit of class + whimsy thrown in. Think picnic blankets + farm tables. think safari tents for guests. think a jukebox instead of a DJ. Now think about a guest “book” in the form of a West Elm paper mache stag head that everyone signed with gold sharpies. antlers, spray painted gold. custom welcome boxes including tattoos, enamelware mugs + a mini coleman lantern. a vintage ford truck displaying tent assignments {attached to mini champagne bottles of course}. we really did turn the property into #campgundry, our hashtag for the weekend.
Saturday kicked off with a little tent drama (Kate + Ross’ families really are amazing and stepped in to help) but ended with a dance party between the trees, and oh yeah, fireworks. In between was an intimate ceremony with just immediate family, a raw bar, a beer canoe, dining by candlelight at farm tables and on picnic blankets, and an incredible cheese + chocolate dessert spread (oh did I have fun setting that one up)!
No shortage of amazing vendors contributed to the celebration, including out-of-this-world food (and the hippest “uniforms”!) from fire roasted catering throughout the weekend, a wild bridal bouquet by Becca at Petal Floral Design, rustic rental items from New England country rentals, round-the-clock videography from Jim at Boston Pixel, and everything captured perfectly as always from Casey at Hello Love. can we go back to august?
From the Bride…We were having our entire wedding celebration at my family’s farm in New Hampshire. This was so convenient as I knew any date we picked would be available but it also meant that the entire weekend was planned to be outside. The cooking would be done on the lawn, the dancing would be under the trees. Luckily the day of the wedding featured a prominent sun + warm temps.
Since we had forgone a bridal party I was left to my own devices to get dressed come wedding day, but luckily my sister-in-law is strong and got me into my dress with only a little wrestling! Ross had gotten his vows letterpressed and framed as a surprise but I was so giddy I couldn’t even read them before we headed out.
We hadn’t invited anyone to the ceremony except our immediate family so I laughed when I got outside and realized our bluegrass band was nearly as big as our “audience”. Between them and the caterers cooking a full leg of beef on the side of the lawn we were truly outnumbered.
The ceremony was perfect performed by Ross’ little brother, not a full-blown adult. And a tree that was damaged in the 2008 ice storm had beautifully grown into the shape of a heart in the background. Following the ceremony we were able to do photos around my mother’s immaculate grass beds.
Guests began arriving while we were still taking pictures, and we were announced for the first time when a critical mass had arrived a bit later on and it was awesome to see everyone enjoying rustic pizzas from our bread oven and an amazing raw bar.
The sun went down, the lights came up and the jukebox got going – the crowd moved around the vegetable garden and over to the bar and dance area we had set up away from where everyone had eaten dinner. The barn had been transformed into a cheesemonger’s heaven with late night pizzas, a myriad of cheeses, chocolate mice from Burdick’s, dried fruits and other treats. I was most excited because I knew what was coming up – fireworks! Our town in New Hampshire is the home of Atlas Fireworks and they do an incredible job. What we thought would be a short show ended up going on for much longer and I love fireworks so was thrilled!
I was exhausted the next day but more than that I just couldn’t believe it was over. Months of planning and so many emotions – no one tells you about the adrenaline drop that comes. On our mini-moon in Rhode Island, I saw an elderly couple holding hands on the beach and started crying all over again! Months later I’m back to normal.
