From Folklore Vintage RentalsThere is something captivating about filling a cold and hard industrial space with warm candlelight and rich texture. The pairing of vintage details and modern styling makes this shoot at Luce Loft in downtown San Diego the perfect balance of hard and soft, old and new, & masculine and feminine.

Our neutral color palette of cool gray, stone blue, and mixed tarnished metals was derived naturally from the mix of raw and polished concrete, exposed metal piping, and heavily distressed wood flooring. A classic and simple wood farm table fit the bill splendidly for our dining table. We softened the table with a crinkled gauzy tulle runner and brought a little femininity with vintage park lane faceted goblets and layered vintage white china. Brass candlesticks brought in our mixed metal. The formal stunning centerpiece arrangement mixed with the branch was just the right dose of organic elegance.

For the ceremony, vintage church pews gave the space the continuity it needed. The warm candlelight on a hard cement floor was the perfect union leading up to a lace draped console in front of a planked wood back drop. Industrial spaces like this one can be dark in their finishing detail so the more candlelight the better. The lounge area consisted of a simple drop cloth canvas settee with a beautifully dainty French frame, old crates, and antlers. Antlers add texture and interest, and well let’s face it, are just really cool. The combination resulted in lounge pretty enough for our beautiful bride in her ethereal and gorgeous dress and still felt perfectly in sync with the spaces clean lines and deconstructed feel.

The piano was an over the top and alluring detail that was a must. Its heavy wood frame and subtle carved details were exactly the right unexpected mix. Styled with industrial stools and yes…more candlelight…. It added a whole new element to the shoots already rich texture. We come across so many brides who think they have to choose only one style and stick with it otherwise their wedding will look scattered or disconnected. This shoot is proof that you can incorporate all the things you love for your big day and be all the better for it.

From Thorne ArtistryThe dress I had in mind was very specific and something that I knew I wouldn’t find in a bridal salon. The look I imagined was very feminine and glamorous with a little bit of an edge. The textured rosette fabric, combined with the multi-layer chain necklace brought to life both of those elements. This dress was designed to have an old world feel, but also meant to have a modern and timeless look.

Our handsome groom needed something modern that also had a bit of a twist. I love a tailored gray suit with pops of black to add just the right amount of sophistication and interest. The suspenders are just the right amount of classic charm that compliment, but don’t overshadow, the gorgeous bride”

From Lovely Paper Things… The Lovely Paper Things were inspired by the juxtaposition of the venues industrial textures & the delicate nature of the gorgeous gown & florals. The intricate floral designs on each piece, inspired by the lush bouquets & center pieces, were hand painted with gauche on a textured watercolor paper. Then the invitation & menu were carefully mounted on real metal & finally each piece of the suite was hand painted with gold metallic accents, to achieve a subtle glamorous effect.
