If you were to ask me to pin down my favorite type of fête, I would first become a flustered mess because picking a favorite is nearly impossible, and then, when I gained my composure, I would say that I adore a wedding that is simple, yet elegant. Timeless and classic. A wedding that looks just like this one from Matt Edge Wedding Photography. Because this is a soiree that will never go out of style, and after pouring through this gallery you’ll see all the reasons why.
From the Bride…We met six years ago as cubicle mates in a New York office. It was in this drab romantic setting that we went from coworkers to friends to boyfriend and girlfriend. Our relationship then endured three years of distance (and a love/hate relationship with Amtrak) as we attended law school in Boston and Philadelphia. We now live in Boston’s Sowa neighborhood, where we found our invitation specialist, Rob Charlton of Goosefish Press, and our calligrapher, Emily Gallardo.
Our wedding was on August 24th in Healdsburg, California. It’s a quaint, wine-country town that is special to our relationship. Jenny’s family has a home just outside the town’s center, where we both studied for the bar exam a few summers ago. Our venue, Barndiva, is an idyllic northern California property with a first-class restaurant, an outdoor garden, and a spacious art gallery that converts into a dance floor. The team at Barndiva, led by Lukka Feldman, handled every detail and day-of stress with graceful ease. Our special request for a cordless, vintage microphone? Not a problem. Wedding crashers at our reception (who even instagrammed their plot)? Handled without anyone noticing.
We wanted to keep our wedding modern and minimal with a touch of East Coast formality. The goal was simple elegance. We knew the setting itself would provide fantastic light and color (thank you, California in August), so we used gold accented china and chiavari chairs, alongside neutral toned linens and flowers. In lieu of a traditional guest book, we had guests fill out postcards from various, meaningful places in our lives. The cards were then sent to our apartment back east while we honeymooned. As a gift, we handed out Whoopie Pies, a nod to Dan’s father’s favorite New England dessert.
