Oh Laura Gordon, you’ve done it again. My coffee has gone cold because I have spent an embarrassing amount of time ogling over the all the gorgeous sitting in this gallery. It’s well worth it though, because this wedding is one for the ages. Filled with the prettiest of palettes and the most stunning of details, it would be hard to not spend hours swooning over all of this pretty. Join me in doing so here.
From the Bride…Jason and I both have a love for architecture and design and we knew we wanted a venue with some history behind it. We knew we wanted to be in the outdoors and surrounded by natural beauty. I had always dreamed of having a romantic garden wedding. The idea of being in a garden, surrounded by flowers, butterflies, the setting sun, seemed so romantic and the Historic Powhatan Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia provided the most beautiful backdrop! Aesthetically, we really wanted everything to be simple, romantic and elegant which just worked perfectly with the garden setting. We also knew we wanted a certain level of traditional elements which helped to tie in the historic manor house.
The colors I chose were blush and gold which just work so well together. Soft and elegant, the blush and gold were the perfect accents to the traditional black and white backdrop of the tent and dance floor. Being a designer myself, I really wanted to incorporate as many DIY projects as I could without it looking too DIY. My mom is an absolute genius when it comes to anything DIY. It was so fun to experiment with different projects until we got it just right! I absolutely loved the floral paper motif that we used from Rifle Paper Co, it really tied everything together! Many hours of hand cutting the flowers made for the perfect accents around the reception tent! I also used the same paper for the envelope liners of our invitation suite!
I also love all the other personal elements that our friends and family helped us with. My mother in law created the beautiful hand sewn jacket that I wore for the ceremony. One of my aunts is a calligrapher and designed the welcome sign at the from of the Manor House as guests arrived. I also had some very special friends and family helping me with all the ribbon details, only the night before the wedding! Without all our amazing family and friends, our day just would not have been the same!
Other details:
-The “lawn games” were hand painted by me and the other signage with “reception”, “ceremony” etc. was painted by me and constructed by my sweet dad!, the tiny cheese signs were handmade by me, all the ribbon details were handmade, the flower detail around the menu was handmade (I designed it but had help assembling), the jacket I wore was hand sewn by my mother-in-law, all the gold frames were hand painted gold, and I hand painted the hangers for the BM dresses.
-We were having a hard time figuring out a good place for the traditional larger cheese and fruit arrangement. I didn’t like the idea of a random cheese table, so I thought it would be much more accessible and visually appealing to have smaller trays at each table! I worked with our catering manager, Ryan Greer, to come up with a combination of cheeses and fruits that would be nice before the main entrees were served. Each tray had fresh kiwi, grapes, locally grown figs (grown on the resort property!), brie, havarti and hooks bleu cheeses.
