Romantic Whidbey Island Wedding
This wedding is everything a wedding should be: romantic, meaningful and chock-full of amazing details planned by the beautiful bride with the help of her dashing groom and awesome friends and family. From the Bride... To escape our busy lives in Seattle (as a medical student and Microsoft consultant), our vision for our wedding was an elegant yet relaxed day for our families and friends surrounded by natural beauty with lots of personal touches.
We fell in love with Fireseed on Whidbey Island for its gorgeous gardens, towering woods, and its local and seasonal catering. What really sold us was its relaxed atmosphere that felt worlds away from our lives in Seattle, yet was only a short ferry ride across Puget Sound. We were also excited to incorporate the talents and skills of our friends and family.
Our ceremony was a unique celebration of our relationship. My brother became ordained and officiated our ceremony, incorporating funny stories of how we met and our lives together over the past four years, and family members recited poems that resonated with us. We wrote and recited our own heartfelt and thus tearful vows to each other for the first time with our community as witnesses. Our good friend played some of our favorite songs on classical guitar during the ceremony. The arbor we were married under was made from driftwood borrowed from the expansive Washington shoreline, collected by my cousins, and designed and built by the uncles. My dress is a vintage family gown that underwent a modern restyle by Eltsa Custom Sewing after it was worn by three of my aunts over two decades ago. The floral design by Tracy Huffman at Farmhouse Flowers included personal touches like the extra lace from my gown used on my bouquet. The fresh cut flowers were locally sourced from the island and arranged by my grandmother and aunts in vintage milk glass and mason jars next to silver pieces holding succulents. After the ceremony, we enjoyed the gardens in full bloom over cocktail hour and played bocce, the game we played on our first date and then again on the night of our engagement. We then paraded with our wedding party into the event hall that featured gorgeous wood walls and romantic lighting, which was the perfect ambience for our family style dinner and dance party.
As a detailed oriented person on a budget, I did the planning and event design myself, which including planting and propagating succulents, making my own favors (my favorite goat butter & honey salted caramels and mini succulents to take home) and sourcing an impressive collection of vintage pieces from throughout the Northwest. My clinical rotations for medical school took me to Eastern Washington and Idaho, where I scoured estate sales and antique malls for these beautiful objects that gave our wedding a vintage touch. Jordan is a music lover and created the perfect playlist for our cocktail hour and reception. After all the organizing and hard work, it made the day even more special for us-- it was the perfect romantic and relaxed day we had hoped for. Finally, working with Chantal Andrea as our photographer was a dream-- her editorial and candid style captured our day perfectly.
